Liberal "scientists" apparently are the new priesthood. Anything they say is not be questioned - or else. Independent thought on anything they say is to be shunned and ridiculed, the same way the theory of Continental Drift was.

Go to: Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani could be hanged in Iran

Someone needs to invade that hellhole before they get nukes. The Mullahs are crazy enough to use them on infidels to enact prophecy and hasten the arrival of the Hidden Imam.

Also, we in the West owe it to our fellow Iranian atheists, and prisoners of conscience under Shari'a, to free them at all costs. We already lost a golden opportunity to act during the Revolution of 2009, when many women protesting Ahmadinejad's election win were tortured and raped in Iranian jails and many innocent people have died. Unfortunately, Obama only chooses to act when a revolution in a Muslim country leads to the victory of Islamists, like the recent ones Egypt and Libya, while in Tunisia and Morocco "Moderate Islamist" parties won the recent elections.

Go to: Atheist Spirituality by a former Muslim Apologist.

I want to contradict the people above and say: feel nothing towards the greatness of the Universe. You must be as cold and emotionless as a machine if you want to get to the Truth. Why do I say this? Because Science is a process of letting go; of abandoning your most cherished theory and your life's work, of previously held convictions, in favor of something closer to reality - no matter how hurtful and plain evil that reality might be.

If you grow too attached and feel its wonder, you become incapable of detaching yourself from it emotionally.

I am almost as much against scientism and atheistic spiritualism as I am against Islam.

Keep the emotions of love for your family and people close to you, NOT for Science. You cannot even feel too attached to the feelings of other humans, because in this your mind can and will shut down if you ever find information that is highly hurtful, politically incorrect about people around you, like that in genetics about the heritability of intelligence, and differences between humans and whole human populations as a mere product of genetic and evolutionary luck.

The most productive feeling you can feel about the Universe and nature is HATE, not wonder. Because hate will drive to find out hateful things about it. And it will also drive you to show the Universe the middle finger, by using your scientific knowledge to fix its flaws.

The Bible, of all books, has this little nugget of wisdom which is in line with what I wrote above:

For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increases knowledge increases sorrow.

Go to: Nature and Nurture Work Together to Shape the Brain

UGene's Avatar Jump to comment 29 by UGene

If genes shape the brain, isn't it immoral for a society to allow bringing into existence anything except the smartest children, those who are destined to success in life and excellence because of their genetic 'luck'? Those with the best possible genetic material when it comes to intelligence, future time orientation, predisposition for violence and for believing in the Sky Fairy? Now that we have in-vitro fertilization, we should seriously concentrate on improving the genetic stock of our species, because given modern medicine, natural selection no longer weeds out the genes predisposing one to sickness or low intelligence.

No one should have the right to bring into existence children in a place where they would be destined to suffer a slow, agonizing death from starvation, or in a society in which they are not free to think anything else than what the local Imam tells them to.

And the fact is, smart people are more likely to become atheists. The current birth rates among the most backward, religious societies on Earth are extremely high and worrying, while that of intelligent atheists is extremely low and worrying.

Go to: Charles Darwin the economist

UGene's Avatar Jump to comment 39 by UGene

Economics is actually very simple. It is only made complicated by political correctness and dogmatic thinking.

The prosperity of a society is determined by the rate of its scientific advancement. This rate is determined by the number of geniuses in the society. We can immediately see an easy way to increase prosperity: make sure that more geniuses are born. Both Charles Darwin and his "infamous" cousin, Francis Galton, understood this.

Since intelligence is heritable, we can actually do this: collect genetic material from the nation's smartest men and women, and pay surrogate mothers who are willing to bear and raise the resulting babies. It is also a way for less intelligent people to actually contribute to society while being offered a decent life in exchange for doing something worthwhile for them and for society: raising smart kids.

Obviously, this is a solution that capitalists don't like because any increase in the number of people they cannot trick into giving them their money and political power is a threat to them. Socialists don't like this because: a) it would undermine the whole Marxist argument, that equality between humans can be achieved merely by having the right political system; b) the socialist leaders and the capitalist leaders are one and the same. The overwhelming majority of US billionaires don't vote Republican.
