seems to me that this guy concentrates entirely on western society, ignoring all the societies violated by it.

yeah not much to convert... well except our fundamentalist prime minister and the delusional majority who voted for him... again...

Holland: less enlightened then advertised.

Comment 1 by Sjoerd Westenborg :

Are we going to be swamped in positive reviews of Dawkins new book(tour)? I know it's good, that's why I bought a second one to lend to others.

On a side note: Dear Richard, when are you visiting the Netherlands? I know there are not as many people to 'convert' as in the States, but that's also the reason you're not that (in)famous here. Would love to see that change :) And a chance to hear you speak of course (may I recommend the Maastricht University?)

while it is easy to blame some organized group for the state of the world today, i do not see how any human being could bear less responsibility then another.

we all made this world the stinking pile of sh#t that it is together. by not demanding truth. by not holding our authority figures responsible for their action. by taking the easy road, avoiding conflict, and generally being a bunch of p#ss##s to the point of being equally guilty of refusing to see the world for what it is as any religious person is.

thus i, who despise religion with a passion to match anyone here, will offer a prayer:

for all i ought to have done, but did not do for all i ought to have said but did not say for all i ought to have thought but did not think, i ask thee forgiveness.

let he who never compromised truth for comfort cast the first stone.

Go to: Molecular quagmire - cancer just got more complicated

the idea of 'junk DNA' has always seemed like the most arrogant assumption of scientists ever. what it really states is that: 'we do not understand it, therefore it must not have any function'.

this is the kinda thing that happens when we refuse to accept our ignorance.

as for cancer, i have to wonder: has science ever looked at what is omitted from our lives, as opposed to what is added? cuz i am reminded of a claim i found interesting: a guy in Canada claimed to be healing cancer with the use of cannabis. (erroneously aka marijuana) and it occurred to me that due to the political landscape, a true scientific test of this kind of claim would be nigh impossible.

has science even ever looked at the idea of cancer being caused by the absence of something rather then the presence of something?

Go to: US cigarette makers sue over graphic warning labels - freedom of speech?

DaveyJones's Avatar Jump to comment 75 by DaveyJones

its very simple guys: if freedom of speech is not absolute, it is absolutely worthless.

why? because if its not absolute that means some person is deciding what is ok and what is not, and in the end such things are entirely subjective. also human beings generally cannot be trusted with such power.
