In their own Youtube Video here they state almost right at the beginning that: "Only fifteen percent of those who become Christian, do so after turning age fifteen"

Later in the Video, a Pastor says that:"If we do not manage to reach them as children, we might never do". The only reason i can think of is that as Adults, we simply cannot be influenced as easily by completely bogus claims. Yet they seem impervious to that line of thought. They are actually convinced they save the children.

As so many times i have to think of the following quote: “Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you’d have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion." (Steven Weinberg)

Go to: German politicians pledge to protect religious circumcision

Probably not, thinking that I would be able to protect myself. Would I have circumcision done on my sons? Probably not, but I would agonize, knowing that I would be putting them at a small increased risk of a deadly disease.

Your sons will not be sexually active during infancy. Once they reach a certain age they can decide for themselves. Or you could simply sponsor a condom.

The evidence is actually pretty clear. There have been a number of studies done in Africa and they have consistently showed a remarkably lower rate of HIV and other STDs in boys who were circumcised.

There have been a number of studies to show that HIV infection rate is extremely low for individuals using condoms. The problem here is not missing circumcisions, it is the activity of religious organisations in and out of Africa, actively preventing people from having access to free or affordable protection.

Now the tendency on this forum and among humanity in general is to ignore evidence that doesn't fit with our own prejudices. But if we are honest with ourselves and consider ourselves engaged in a search for truth, we should admit that we don't like the idea of circumcision, but that it probably does reduce the incidence of certain diseases, some of them serious or fatal.

You are of course right that we should always pursue ideas to see if they offer improvement, independently of ones own prejudice. But you miss the point. Circumcision is not what best prevents those diseases. See above.

I believe that laws outlawing circumcision are well-meaning, but that decision is none of the lawmakers' business.

It absolutely is. Personal religious freedom does not extent to those around you, even if family. Every person must be able to chose without fear of corporal punishment. Mutilating children for dogma is an abhorrent practice and serves no reasonable purpose.

Go to: German politicians pledge to protect religious circumcision

The biggest Childrens Hospital in Zürich just publically declared a few days ago that they will perform no circumcision due to the german court ruling. Until now they performed about two a month according to their own admission. Of course Jews and Muslim Organisations are up in arms against that decision. If the german court decision is now overruled by a law, then the Zürich Hospital will pick up that practice again where it left off.

Though to be honest, the problem of male circumsision pales in comparison to the female version, which is extremely "popular" in quiet a few african countries. A lot of girls are brought home for the operation, which mostly consists of cutting of both clitoris and the inner labia. In some parts, the outer labia are sown together, leaving only a small hole for urination and menstruation.

I cannot believe how anyone can defend these practices. I am ashamed of my government and their lack of courage. It is high time the politicians in germany grow a pair and start taking rational decisions again instead of being guided by historical shame.

To make a long story short, 150 years after Italy unified against the will of the Church, and expropriated most the property in the hands of religious institutions, the Church is the biggest real estate owner in the country. And it still gets 0.8% of the total tax income. And is still tax exempt.

I would love to see a map of the world once, with all land property owned by the church colored in red and a list of all companies and their shares in them. Would surely make my day.

Yes Alex, i read that and i could not believe it. In the face of all that is wrong with the church, their huge wealth that is simply accumulated and their shameless lies about their social engagement, they dare (!) request humility !

It is truly beyond my capacity of comprehension how any moral person could do that without instantly feeling guilty. The only explanation is that i derive my morals from a different set of basic assumptions.
