And on vague ideas- quantum mechanics is much more vague than "let there be light" and all that mess.

I disagree with this: quantum theory is extremely precise.

If I were an atheist, I would live a completely selfish existence, running rough-shod over any schmuck that dared to get in my way. I would feel completely comfortable in doing so

Well, I don't know you, but I doubt this. For most people, hurting others just doesn't feel good (and that's a product of evolution).

Historically most people have bought into this idea because they feel a powerful spiritual reality inside themselves.

You may well be right. But that tells us nothing about the truth of the idea.

Atheists, like fundamentalist Christians, do not like vague ideas.

Indeed. Vague ideas are meaningless. But requiring arguments to be precise does not mean claiming complete knowledge.

atheists want to believe that food, air, sex, and the joys of defecation are all that they have to look forward to until their own sad end. They just cant stand the idea of a reality that is outside of their tiny knowledge base, education or experience.

This is clearly untrue, as most atheists will tell you. First, it doesn't matter what anyone wants to believe - it will not change what is true. Second, rational people consider all possibilities, and believe or disbelieve them as the evidence indicates.

Comment 20 by Roedy :

I can understand selling water as medicine, i.e. homeopathy. The motive is profit. But why sell bleach as medicine? It shows both hatred and contempt for people who have Crohn's disease.

I was about to post something like this. It suggests to me that the people selling it might actually believe it works. Otherwise, why not just sell something harmless? Also, it would probably be even cheaper to make if there were nothing much in it.

True, wikipedia isn't the place to go if you want to be sure you're getting reliable information. But I didn't learn it from there, of course. I perused the link before posting - seems correct on a quick scan. Naturally, there are more reliable sources - but they will say pretty much the same thing.
