Go to: [Update10Jan-Protest and Fundraiser] Notorious Nigerian witch-hunter to preach in the US

On the face of it, this sounds so silly it's laughable.....

Except it comes just a day after the news of the hideous torture and murder of an innocent child here in the UK by crackpot parents who believed their child was conducting witchcraft, the parents even forced the childs siblings to participate in the torture.

There is your end result of allowing this nonsense to happen at all.

The Africans seem to suffer particularly badly from this religious afliction, my sister in law is African. She is a lovely person, but had a catholic education back in Africa. As well as having her head full of all the usual catholic crap, she also has crazy notions of cats bieng evil and goes beserk if a local cat crosses her garden at home. I've tried to discuss religion with her, but given up as she has been so indoctrinated with nonsense for most of her life, seems to be immune to rational discussion. I really don't know what I can do to help her.

Go to: Why did my brother become an extreme Islamist?

@ scottygman

I feel for you there, although I didn't lose my wife to such nonsense, I lost contact with two of my closest friends I had known for decades as they got sucked into baptist crap, I find it simply impossible to talk to them at all now, brainwashed beyond belief and view me as "of the devil" or some such sh**e. What I find really hard to stomach is the fact they are both well educated, professional people, I just don't get the hold this stuff can get on people... :(

Unfortunately what we are seeing in the US, and to a lesser degree in Europe is a natural darwinian evolution of unchecked capitalism. The end result of this, with the exception of a very small priviledged elite is a very low standard of living for most people on the planet.

There is no realistic prospect of democracy in its current form being able to offer any significantly better alternatives, in fact I would argue there is no democracy, just a choice between two dictatorships posing as such owned by the mega rich.

Although I'm sure I'll be shot down for saying this, and I know it could never happen due to the sheer number of vested interests and stupid, selfish & deluded people on the planet, but I think the wrong system won out. It should have been Communism.

Not the corrupt version practiced in the old Soviet Union, but a global version of Communism, with it's leadership held accountable and removable by voting rights of the people and a sensible set of laws. Coupled to this should be a sensibly controlled and sustainable population level living only in non hazardous regions of the planet, with a good level of education and secure comfortable accomodation and diet for all with the use of technology maximised to improve quality of life. Each individual employed dependent on their own merits, with the ability for ambition to still flourish catered for by the ability to become more wealthy, but with sensible upper limits.

No one should be allowed to personally acrue billions whilst millions starve to death or are murdered in corrupt regimes, whilst the planet is wrecked by unchecked expansion. It is a great shame that as well as being the most evolved and sentient species on the Earth, we are also the most stupid!

OK rant over... I feel better now :)

Go to: Catholic primary school set to convert to Islamic faith

paulifa1's Avatar Jump to comment 22 by paulifa1

@ Daz365

Much as I have no love for Catholisism, yes Islam is much worse, if it ever reaches a critical mass where it can have real political clout in the UK you can kiss goodbye to the free and tolerant society we now enjoy here.

I just don't understand why people in authority can't see the menace of faith in general and especially the danger Islam poses to our way of life.
