Go to: Church accused of 'scaremongering'

Comment 40 by wahee :

The church always seems obsessed with trying to live other peoples lives for them. I have never seen mobs of gay folk threatening churches or harassing religious ceremonies so why are religions having a go at gay people. It's just grossly unfair.

Religious people need to realise that the entire fabric of the universe is not going to unravel because gay people are granted the same rights as heterosexuals.

Go to: Richard Dawkins and Michael Aus discuss The Clergy Project (with Polish subtitles)

Comment 45 by wahee :

Mike Aus has shown real courage and conviction by coming out. His intellectual honesty shines thorough as he refuses to preach material which he knows is untrue. Once one takes away faith and works that god has 'supposed' to have done, there is very little left. The world looks exactly as it would if there were no god.

As a ex Christian myself. When my faith started to wain, I sincerely asked god to reveal himself to me. Needless to say - nothing was forthcoming. I feel embarrassed to even admit that I asked, but when you are a Christian, it is easy to believe there is someone 'up there' looking out for you.

It's a burden lifted Mike and I wish you all the very best. Your personable character will be a great boon to the cause of reason.

Go to: Do you get it now, Prime Minister? [Also in Polish]

Yes Steve some great points there and I can see how I could become much less of a 'cultural Christian. I am starting to find even mild references to god annoying, well just not relevant.

There was a chap from the church knocked on the door the other evening wanting £4 to help children with cancer. I asked what the charity was called and he said it was for his church magazine. I refused the money and got a sort of 'ok then, so you don't care about kids with cancer' look

Quite the contrary as I would not hesitate to help such a good cause, just not his particular loaded brand of charity.

I was a little sharp with the guy and he left.

I suppose I consider myself culturally Christian as in N Ireland I think the religious put something in the water to keep the flock in check. Took a while to escape the brain washing but a lot of what they spouted was demonstrably wrong, plus the guilt trip they lay on you. It is a terrible thing and totally imaginary. So yes I despise it.

I guess when I see my old mum reading her Bible and it makes her feel good. I forget the horrors contained within, well that is until I showed her a few of the 'moral' murders in the Old Testament.
