Firstly........... Kudos to Hector on bucking the family trend. You have some dark days ahead my friend but hopefully your lack of faith will pull you through .... as you finally get to see how bigoted and intolerant the religious can be.

Jay ... Jay .... Jay.... Where to begin ....

Let me start by making a few assumptions.

Your wife is a dyed in the wool christian. She did not end her previous marriage due to religious/non-religious differences. She and her kids believed in the 'till death do us part' line.

My own story is slightly similar to yours so here goes.

My wife kids and I were deeply religious and partook in every festival, prayer and ritual that our beliefs dictated until I began to look around me and see all the crap that goes on in our daily lives. Once you question....... believe me there is no going back. Things become clearer and suddenly start to make sense.

Anyway..... One cold winter's night, I sat the wife and kids down by the fire and started to break down my views and insights to them. Granted, my wife and I are very open with each other and don't like sensing unease in each other so this went a lot smoother than I expected.

She totally respected my point of view and said she always knew I would make the break due to my constant pondering of why things were the way they were.

My kids were a bit taken aback .... simply because I was the one who infected them with the god bug in the first place...... but they have begun the long road to enlightenment and are free of their religious baggage.

Believe me, we are a lot happier now and are good people simply for being good's sake. We know our place in the world and expect nothing from it. We know that this life is all there is and we make the most of it. We are now totally prepared to milk our existence for all it's worth so when we are no more, we go with the knowledge that we have lived.

So my advice to you is think about your approach and arguments that you will use to explain your change of worldview to your wife as I hope she married you for the person you are and not what SHE wanted you to be.

Mention to her that if she believed that her previous marriage was made in heaven and ordained by god, then something didn't go according to plan. Try to make her see life without religious trappings and she may surprise you. Be coherent and cool headed using real life examples where possible. Don't bring up heavy topics like evolution and other philosophical arguments as these may put her off totally. Try to make her see that you cannot live a lie and look her in the eye every day knowing that both of you are seeing the world from totally exclusive perspectives.... You simply cannot be untrue to yourself.... It's not worth the stress.

Strength .... always.

It belongs to a male steppe mammoth (Mammuthus trogontherii) that stood about 3.7m (12ft) tall and lived about 400,000 years ago, during Middle Pleistocene times.

How about building a LHC in Pakistan and making sure something goes wrong during the test. Now I see Richard's problem with "moderates" in any religion. They just go on propping up these fundies and go on making excuses for them.

"We condemn this barbaric act," said Mohammed Ibrahim, a senator for the Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami party. "This is against Islam, against humanity and against civilized culture."

Yeah Fucking right!!!!!!!!!!!!
