Will the pope be visiting scientists soon to discuss an end to all the violence? It would seem that visiting with Muslims is a waste of time, since science is the actual problem, not religion.

Like Richard A. Shweder and David Matthews (the god-head, not the singer,) I agree that it's time we put an end to science's reign of terror. How many murderous lunatics like Carl Sagan do we have to endure before we admit that mythology is our only hope?

Get this straight, people: the Inquisition, the Crusades, the burning of witches...all lies created by secular propagandists! All the real dangers of this world are directly attributable to technology, medicine and knowledge in general!

Hear me, infidels!!! Our only salvation shall be through blind faith in a fictional book written thousands of years ago by the creator of the universe, who believed the world was flat, and believed in slavery, and believed in killing your children, and believed in wiping out entire civilizations for loving imaginary friends other than him!

Let us burn.

Haha, the article was cute and funny. And I agree that this is good publicity for the cause.

And more importantly, any world that starts to favor intelligence over facial features is a world where I have a chance!

I just read the Harris article, and also the article by R. Albert Mohler Jr.

Many atheists are concerned that Dawkins and Harris are too harsh in their attacks on religion, because of the possibility that these attacks could galvanize all religious moderates and liberals, in effect making them less liberal, in response to the attacks.

But after reading the Mohler article, I'm curious as to what the rest of you think: could these attacks by Dawkins and Harris conceivably even unite the different religions in a spiritual (and hopefully not physical) war against atheism? This could be a good thing, because if the different sects can find some area of compromise and agreement, perhaps they will even find a place in their sympathies for us one day.

More importantly, no war.

The obvious response to Charlene's anecdotal "evidence" of her god's existence is simple:

God is what you're calling the courage inside you when you need it most. It's also the name many people give to compassion and morality.

Charlene, don't sell yourself short. You had the courage all along. Calling on an ancient mythological metaphor for courage brought it out when you needed it.

Look inside yourself for that courage the next time you need it. Call on your internal strength; I think you'll be more proud of your accomplishments and survivals.

Good luck to you.
