Go to: Pell, Dawkins wage battle of belief

There were quite a few comments lamenting the loss of Christopher Hitchens during the debate, and I found them very apt. Prof Dawkins is a fantastic espouser of science, but when it comes to the rough n' tumble of the live debate he gets easily frustrated, he misses opportunities to fire one-liners that would make the opposition look completely idiotic (and give the audience a laugh) and he singularly fails to chill out and have a good time.

It's lucky that his opponents are so incredibly dense that Dawkins can still walk away feeling like he's won (he always wins), but this is a battle - like no other - for hearts and minds... and in that respect I feel atheism needs a new spokesperson to fill that Hitch-shaped hole.

Oh, so Britain's a Christian Nation?

  • Better hide the wank mags.

  • There goes the neighbourhood.

  • Quick - hide the gays!

  • Guess I'll have to stop doing it doggie style.

  • Better learn to swallow what they give you.

Rich men can't enter heaven, apparently. Pretty much makes the pope an atheist, does it not? Either that or he thinks he's going to have a damn good celestial lawyer. Clarence Darrow, perhaps. Now THAT would make a good short film...!

Oh, and Merry Christmas you bunch of bloody heathens!!

Who the hell writes in complaining that a science show (that presumably they have listened to) is 'spoiling the magic'??! What are these people? Five years old? Can we tell them no we're not going to give you a blood test/CT scan/MRI/ultrasound to find out what that unsettling lump is because it would 'spoil the magic'? Should we refrain from announcing the football results lest their team lost and would therefore 'spoil the magic'? Should the Queen give bravery awards to fictional characters? Should denying the existence of Santa Claus be punishable with a three year prison sentence and an unlimited fine?

Dawkins hits the nail on the head when he talks about neoteny. Grow the fuck up, dimwits.
