RE: 13 Comment #14653 by Niels

I did listen to two of John Humphrys interviews in this series. My position agrees precisely with Niels, and it's nice to see it put so concisely.

If God is not a personal God does it matter if there is some sort of Einsteinian unknowable force behind the universe? No. (Except in a scientific search for 'truth').

Is there a mountain of evidence that life is a bit of a lottery and unspeakable diseases like childhood leukaemia will kill innocent individuals for no 'reason'? Yes.

So there is no interventionist personal god. In that case all disease and suffering does make perfect sense.

So give your money to medical research not the church!

Here's Buggs' bio.

I wasn't impressed! After McIntosh the other day I thought the Truth in Science lot would be wheeling out their big guns now. I guess they don't have any, just a load of money the Discovery Institute has fleeced from gullible fools.

Thrall asked: 'What is this asshat a doctor of'

I always think it's revealing when they have to put Dr in front of their names. Here in Northern Ireland we're likely to get Dr Ian Paisley as our next First Minister.
I think they do it in an attempt to give themselves the same credibility as scientists and medical doctors.

In reply to Thrall's comment #3 in this thread. Who do you think put the President of the USA into power? And Why?

If you were shocked by McIntosh try this. This is the new revised Religious Education curriculum for Northern Ireland, drawn up by the four main churches and approved by the minister. Our children have compulsory RE at school and this is what they will be taught.

This is supposed to be an improvement on what they get at the moment - more inclusive, etc. Note it contradicts what Michelle Marken claimed on the Crawley debate (last 5 minutes).
