Comment 8 by Flying Goose:

Unfortunately creationist input into RE classes hadn't disappeared across the whole UK by 1979. We in N Ireland, and my cousins in Scotland, were all influenced by Creationism at RE classes.

N Ireland persists in this, and there are close associations between the DI and local education ministers here. We are in the same position here in NI, which is an integral part of the UK, as school boards across the US.

In England, I'd say Islamic fundamentalism is more likely in schools now than Christian Creationism, but I do get the feeling that the Creos are attempting a comeback there too.

That has to be the most worded and impressive outburst I've ever heard from a long-haired, tattooed rock star.

Only religion can make a person that pissed.

Let's hope he's the band's lyracist - I'll buy their next album.

I live in the country in question (Northern Ireland).

The biggest party is dominated by dyed-in-the-wool protestant fundies, who think the Discovery Inst. is NASA.

The harridon wife of the 1st Minister, Iris Robinson - she says gay people are "vile" and "an abomination".

She is supported in this view by many catholics!! So I guess reconciliation may be one result of this shameful episode. But it's hardly the type of reconciliation we'd hoped for ...

Thanks to the few posters here who also posted on the BBC/NI message Boards - I, and a few others there need all the help we can get!
