Yes, I'm proud to be an Australian. Knowing that 1 in every 4 people I meet is a Catholic is a little disturbing, but I'm glad to see we're catching up.

Go to: Louisiana lunacy: tens of millions to be spent on faith-based education

I know that the events in Louisiana don't characterise the US as a whole, but from an Australian perspective it seems that these parts of the US belong back in the seventeenth century. Just what the hell is going on over there? I'm a teacher myself, and I pity these poor kids. The education of children is, if I may use the term, a sacred duty. These dickheads obviously don't care a damn. Recently I've been watching Ken Burns "The Civil War". The whole thing of states rights is still a problem it seems. You guys need a national mandatory curriculum.

Onya Dan!, as we say here in Australia. Hearing Prof. Dennett always leaves me with the feeling of being given the opportunity to think of things in a new and fruitful way. And he is never sarcastic or derogatory in his sentiments.

Just imagine if these things were perpetrated by a secular multi-national corporation, instead of the Catholic Church. There would be hell to pay.

Go to: Easter in a Catholic hospital

I had a vasectomy a year or two ago. The surgeon could have performed it in the local hospital, but it was a Catholic hospital so that particular operation was banned. The procedure was eventually done in the doctors own rooms. No big deal to me (apart from the extra cost), but actually banning certain procedures purely on religious dogmatic grounds seems at odds with medical ethics.
