D. Chopra and J. Houston spewed so much woowoo my brain underwent an infarction. At least we have modern thinkers/scientists like Harris, Shermer, Hitchens, Dawkins and Dennet trying desperately to get people to think critically. Their debates and books ARE making a difference!! It is sad, however, that they have to fight what is written in bronze age books.

Unless people become more educated we are going to destroy ourselves. I am fearful because of what my military occupational specialty was in the armed services.

I love this country, but I have lost all faith in the American people. Sam is right to fear how religion affects the American voter.

Go to: The trouble with homeopathy

One of the most prestigious cancer research centers in the world has claimed that homeopathic medicine may be effective. I did not read the original article, but here is a link referencing the original studies. Read it and weep:

By the way, am I missing something? I don't believe those stated results are possible. I don't care if they were backed up by prestigious researchers. What do you think? I wonder if Richard would be kind enough to reply.

Go to: NHS money 'wasted' on homeopathy

As a retired Biologist I find the following hard to believe! Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D. (a cancer consultant) reports in his newsletter (The Moss Reports) that:

A landmark paper on homeopathy and cancer has appeared in the February 2010 issue of the International Journal of Oncology. Scientists at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDA), led by Moshe Frenkel, MD, have confirmed the ability of four homeopathic remedies to induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in breast cancer cell lines in the laboratory....

I did NOT look up the original article yet, but after seeing the Cancer Decisions newsletter, I didn't know whether to weep or LOL. Both actions may be appropriate???

Go to: 1000 Rabbis Warn: Open Homosexuality in the Military is a Disaster and May Cause Further Natural Disasters

All this is in sync with a two thousand year old teaching in the Talmud that the practice of homosexuality is a spiritual cause of earthquakes.

I wonder how the above statement makes Sam Harris feel? I imagine it evokes the same emotions most of us readers have. It causes partial insanity in me.

Go to: Make The Pope Pay

ricklend's Avatar Jump to comment 42 by ricklend

Ref. -- comments 38 and 39. In posting 38 I was simply trying to show how hypocritical the Catholic church's belief's are. I would not wish the pope harmed. Keddaw is correct, the pope deserves protection. But by having all that protection, isn't the pope tacitly admitting that his god doesn't interfere with anything humans do? And by that admission, isn't Catholic's faith that prayer works simply ludicrous. Including the belief that his god would even care what happens to him.
