...not only that, when Haggee, McCain's preacher, says that Katrina was God's wrath on New Orleans, Hitchens points out that the French Quarter, AKA sin town, survived largely intact. Hagee says nothing about the hundreds of tornados that kill hundreds of evagelicals every year. I always thought evagelicals were "walked down the path" by evil....only the evil is evangelicalism....and is right here on Earth....

"My conclusion is that Creationism has been chosen because a) it's more likely to come up in normal conversation and thereby identify the speaker as a card-carrying Christian; and b) because it doesn't commit the believer to actually DO anything."

...I think you're right. Lately, a fundie friend of mine, meaning well, of course, has been trying to get me to accept Jesus so that I "won't burn in Hell for all eterninty." All I have to do is accept Jesus, and that's it; I can do anything I want, and I'll be forgiven. No good works, they don't count...doesn't matter how good you are, doesn't count. Five freakin minutes of time, and I get a free pass to kill millions if I want, doesn't matter, I go to Heaven....well, I told him,"if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." I think this explains Fundamentalisms' popularity in America, because it's instant salvation. You don't have to do a damn thing...you're going to Disneyland with a free pass. No heavy lifting required; after all, we're all too fat and lazy for that...and as a bonus, you're part of the "club".
