The problemm here is not religous bullshit. It pseudo secular bullshit.

India is not a secular state- its a multi religous state. Therefor ridiculous situations like this. And it happily ignores international Human Rights laws.

Go to: Cardinal Brady will not resign over 'abuse failure'

Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin has called for an independent investigation into past allegations of clerical sex abuse.

Archbishop Martin said a commission should be set up to examine all accusations against paedophile priest Brendan Smyth.

“I know it’s not fashionable to talk about commissions, but I believe an independent commission to investigate the activities of Brendan Smyth would be in the public interest, as to how he was allowed to abuse for so many years – north and south, church and state,” Archbishop Martin told RTE.

At what point does it become clear , what level of evidence is necessary, to realize that, morality is about personal decisions, not about following orders.

How can church authorities be deemed to be moral when they have sworn themselves to be obedient?

If the excuse will always be ," I was following orders", and catholic church leaders to not speak out couragously independantly of the hierarchy (which the dont) then they can no longer claim to be considered a source of morality.

Interesting Article and Video on the Irish Government reaction to the Cloyne report

The Cloyne report was the 4th government investigation. It covers the period 1996 to 2008. The period during which Brady was Primate of All Ireland. It finds the Catholic Church has ignored guidelines on informing state autorities. Even after all the scandals.

This video describes how the Cork diocese reacted and tried to block the report http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi-33sWy8ME&feature=player_embedded

"Within the report the Vatican is accused of giving comfort to the dissenters within the church who did not want to implement Irish bishops' procedures for handling child sexual abuse. In a 1996 letter to the Irish bishops the Vatican describes the procedures, established in 1996, as "merely a study document", not official."

Brady as Primate of All Ireland, aware of this letter, personally aware of bishops failure to act, does nothing legally wrong by taking no action.
