Stop feeding the troll.

Just imagine WinfredEmmanuel sitting alone in his parents basement giggling and clutching Chick tracks while you folk chase his inanities.

Mark him and move on.

Heya mixmastergaz,

Thanks for the support. It's clear what bob is from his first response. I really did just want a reference to a good discussion of the TGD and who knows, a different audience might have access to different materials. (But I suppose that attitude is a hold-over from my pre-web research days...)

What's interesting from the thread is how it evolves. It appears that when dealing with creationists and IDiots that direct and repeated request for concrete statements of their own position (rather than just defending their attacks) while pointing out how they are attempting to side-rail the discussion, eventually shuts them up and makes clear to other participants exactly what they are doing. (I know bob is over here reading this thread and will rush over to TPM to accuse me of something else).

If the disputant is there in good faith, they will make a concrete statement or argument - it's usually ill-formed or untestable, but that becomes the basis for more questions to clarify their position - which leads to them actually thinking about their position (and me about theirs). A Socratic dialogue examining the assumptions and consequences of a hypothesis. The steps you need to take before going out into the real world to test things.

A win-win really.

Check out the comments. I asked for pointer to a good discussion of the philosophical flaws in TGD and "Bob" - who purports to be an atheist - goes ballistic.

I must have said something wrong... :-)

Is this a reasonable paraphrase of this quotation?

1) If we apply any existing standard to determine the "truth" of any statement of religious experience, we will find it is delusional (without correspondence to reality), therefore,
2) We must redefine truth in a way that gets the answer we wanted in the first place (that religious experience is true - [and therefore god exists?] Okay, okay they don't take that last step in the quote)

If this isn't a reasonable paraphrase, would you mind explaining what it does mean without name dropping or hiding the meaning behind various "isms"?

I ask this to find out what *you* actually think this means - using the Feynman metric

"If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't really understand it."

or Vonnegut
"... [a scientist] who couldn't explain to an eight-year-old what he was doing was a charlatan."

[And this quote still doesn't fulfill Jos's request]
