Wouldn't it be great if stuff like this could be blamed on religion alone? Then we could dream of a world without religion where everybody lives in peace and harmony.

Don't fool yourselfs. Man is cruel, with or without religion.

And yet again west makes the iranians the bad guys... The people in Iran protest because they can protest. It's a democracy, not flawless but neither are US (2000 election anyone?) nor UK ("by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith")

If I had to choose between Shia and Sunni I would choose Shia. Shia is much more liberal compared to Sunni. Don't get me wrong, they are both bad but we really should be closer friends with the iranians... The problems with Iran are more a political thing than a religious. Iran is not our enemy, unfortunatly USA is making them into one...

Saddam: Sunni, Gaddafi: Sunni, Al-Qaeda: Sunni, Talibans: Sunni.

I always thought that the "probably" was always intended to be included to reflect the fact the Atheists accept that you cannot disprove a negative, and that it would show that unlike the religious, that they were not arrogant.

That's what I thought! I was thinking about chapter 4 in Dawkins book the God delusion "Why There Almost Certainly is No God".

Some of this sounds mildly sort-of semi-reasonable until the bits about genocide against the Amalekites and Canaanites, and then the whole thing collapses like a house of cards. I know at least two Orthodox Jews who will come out as say this is horrifying and wish it had never been written. But this guy defends it in quite weaselly ways.

Why is genocide wrong, especially if you live in a pre industrial time when it's kill or be killed that's the de facto law?

I'm really suprised that so many atheists believe in some form of absolute moral code...

We look down on genocide today because we live in wealth and health and understands that it's best for ourself if all humans work together. Genocide is wrong because we have global laws that says they are wrong. And of course it's easier to uphold the laws if we make simple people believe that the laws is natural, written in stone, absolute and have always existed.

Getting a "Theory of Abiogenesis" that's as good as the "Theory of evolution". We know how life evolves, but we don't know how life began. There's lots of bits and pieces, lots of hypotesis but no great theory...

Another thing would be alien life, in any form. A big thing would be to find evidence for intelligent life and a huge thing would to actually meet intelligent alien life. But I don't know if that would be a good or bad experience...

A third thing would be teleportation that can transport big objects over smaller and greater distances. Real teleportation that actually take an object and somehow move it from one place to another, not the fake one which works by copy and delete...
