Go to: Wanted: More science and math teachers in the US

I'd just like to add to the chorus the idea that instead of requiring a degree in Education (in the US at least), maybe teachers should earn a dergree in say, biology to teach biology, history to teach history, etc. You know, specialising in the subject you want - and the schools need - to teach. Then, perhaps you wouldn't have IDers teaching science because the teachers would have to be highly educated in that field. A built-in weeding out process, if you will. This especially necessary at the upper grades, where the subjects supposedly begin to get taught by specialists.

Unfortunately, Rod, the school year in Louisiana has been going for a week now. That's one week of ignorant indoctrination to fight already.

Somewhat. Thanks Lucas. The correlation, I believe, is not so much southern as rural, or very isolated. The resulting lack of new people and ideas cause intellectual stagnation.
There. All better now.

Good job.

Way to be blandly patronising.

Hopelessness has never been employed before on this issue.

Thanks for something completely different.

Do I need to be predictable and point out where this isn't helpful?

on a somewhat related note, anyone see this yet?
