It is interesting that the author chose to talk of a little god in control of the body. I don't know if he has any knowledge of Indian philosophies, or just happened to use this term, but many Vedic scriptures talk of the soul using that very analogy. That, just as there are deities that preside over different aspects of life and nature, the soul is the presiding deity of the body. It is a tempting intuition.

The other commenters who talk of how the soul was viewed in materialistic terms are touching on the fact that even though the idea of the soul has become abstracted it originated in folk psychology. In groping attempts to describe the difference between animate and inanimate objects. Many of the words that get interpreted as soul were words for breath or air. This gave rise to funny ideas such as where the Pythagoreans were forbidden to eat beans because the flatulence that occured was understood to be due to beans containing souls in the process of reincarnation. To eat the beans was considered to get in the way of this. That fart was a soul getting ejected.

I have often thought that the Queen has hung on, and not allowed Charles be King, for fear it would be the end of the monarchy altogether.

I don't really know how smart William is, but it would be hard to be as thick and credulous as his old man.

If the debate is between Islam and atheism then how does the Muslims preserving Greek writings have any bearing on it? That would be for a debate as to who was more interested in preserving knowledge, Christians or Muslims.

Of course it says nothing about whether either are true in and of themselves.

But... but, God invented the genetic alphabet. These scientists are just writing new words with His letters...or something.
