Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime

Light a man a fire and he'll be warm for a night; light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life

Go to: Why so many minds think alike

I think there's another aspect to this. If something is desired, it makes it more desirable. If you watch a three year old child sitting next to a toy that they have zero interest in, then put another child in there and give them the toy, the first one will want it. I can well imagine women (or men) seeing pictures of faces and rating them based on first impressions. Then on hearing that the face is more or less desirable, they increase or decrease their opinion. At least in part because I imagine them imagining being seen with the person and they're more likely to want to be seen with someone popular than unpopular.

That and people are sheep.

What about having a picture of the names of various gods crossed out, with then the word God not crossed out, but with a hand holding a pen getting ready to cross it out, with just the caption "Hmm?"

Thing I like about this is it would get people thinking about it and is slightly less obvious than either crossing it out or not. Plus, if people come to the conclusion that they should cross it out it would be much stronger than being told they should. Problem is there would be quite a lot to see on a bus - might work better on a poster in the underground.

Haven't read the whole thread, so if anyone's said things like these already, my apologies.

My suggestions:-

1. Humanism - being good for goodness' sake (NB I said humanism here because atheism still does have negative connotations though it shouldn't)

2. Life...live it

3. This life is all there is, so make the most of it

4. Have fun, love life, lie in on Sundays (shamelessly plagiarised from the Aussie one)

62 Border Collie - I've been reading that link, which hopefully will explain my sentiments here:

I've been thinking about this and it occurred to me that "Christian Voice" is very nearly an anagram of "bunch of fucktards" - not perfect I will concede, but close enough.

Reading links like that one of yours makes me realise I have a couple of things in common with the fundies. Firstly, I wish that the rapture thing was true, and secondly I wish it would hurry up and happen so that the rest of us can get on with life.
