Aquilcane, what I'm confused about in your posting is your association of multiculturalism-gone-awry with aboriginal treaty rights. What does "reasonable accommodation" have to do with contract law?

I've popped in and out of this thread for a while now, but has anyone already pointed out the irony of someone posting under a Jewish handle (Bernstein) railing against equality?

Because our economy runs on oil. No oil and everything comes to a halt. This is why extracting oil is more important then some piece of land. You may not like that but when you figure out a way to make our economy run on something else besides oil, you make sure to let everyone know.

I haven't once indicated in the slightest that I didn't appreciate the necessity of petroleum (pay close attention to my comment 288278. Surely even a person of your abilities can understand the two sentences of the main point?) - what I DO question is your insistence that you are entitled to receive it cheaply. You are not. Much as you are not entitled to a cookie you are not entitled to cheap anything. Somehow I get the feeling that you were raised on Sesame Street with the false sense of self-worth that such a program brings. Wake the fuck up, DP.

DP 288232: Bush is doing this to make it easier for oil companies to drill in certain areas and not have to deal with all the bullshit that comes with wanting to drill in some places. If this helps keep gas prices down then go for it.

DP 288279: Why does the government have to do this? Why can't the private sector find alternative energies? Did the government invent oil in the first place? No. But I am all for new energy sources to replace oil, but until they are ready to be mass produced and cheaper then oil, lets keep gas prices down.

Why does the government have to repeal environmental laws that protect against mass drilling in areas that are better left alone just so that you can have cheaper gas?

Just because we know of no viable alternative to petroleum in plastics manufacturing etc at the moment does not guarantee that we will never find something that will perform equally well or better. Despite this, and pending the granted usefulness of petroleum, is it not more useful to manufacture with it than to burn it?

edit - I see you acknowledge that already. Kudos.
