I recently bought the hardback (after buying the pback in 2006). It's a very good quality hardback too BTW; nicely bound, opens at page well (u get fussy about this when u buy hardbacks)
Does anybody know what the salesfigures are for TGD now?
The wiki page (& most everyone) mentions 1.5 mill - which I think is from 2007) but it must be higher now?

Go to: UK fails to halt female genital mutilation

"It is generally considered to be an essential rite of passage to suppress sexual pleasure, preserve girls' purity and cleanliness, and is necessary for marriage in many communities even now. It has no religious significance"

Oh dear, that's the sort of PC we need to throw light on. No religious significance whatsoever?

I've read Ayaan Hirsi Ali's book, and although it is admitted that FGM is not exclusive to Islam it is certainly justified under Islam.

It is justified under Islam because the practice is completely harmonious with the laws & requirements surrounding women's purity.
It is a method or a "tool" that is used by Muslims-wholly justified (and certainly in no way discouraged) by the Qur'an and Sharia law.

Clearly they need a special circumcision task force.

Go to: 'Why Evolution Is True'

I would also like to recommend Jerry Coyne's book - "Why Evolution is True" - it is superbly written. It is shorter than TGOE by Dawkins but is so beautifully written: logical, thorough & interesting. For my situation, a preferred book to have a "creationist" read.

Go to: England's libel laws don't just gag me, they blindfold you

Yes, Singh is the best science author I've ever read. I could not put "Big Bang" down, and stayed up to 2am on nights, only falling asleep could stop me.
"Trick or Treatment" is, likewise, extremely well written. Sing has a great ability to tell a 'story' with excellent structure. No ranting and beautiful logic. I've just bought "The Code Book" and the first chapter is awesome. Buy all his books - for no other reason than good science!
