I am sure John would forgive him but than he was a better man than most of us. I think he has just made a stupid mistake that may be because he is stupid or like the rest of us just does stupid things sometimes.

"Roman Catholic leader has hit out at Italy's political class, saying the country needs to "purify the air" of sex and corruption scandals."

Every once in a while the catholic church does something laugh out load funny. I read this and now I have coffee up my nose and all over my keyboard

His house isn't on fire however, nor is his life on the line. Of course, priorities in the event of a house fire may come into play (people doing good things due to bad reasons, though I doubt a fire fighter, unless you're in the US perhaps, saves people because of his superstition, but because it's his/her job and a moral duty.) When people keep their superstitions to themselves, then all is well and good, but Pat refers to people to wear the badge of stupidity proudly and openly, whether that's in public or otherwise.

As a retired fire-fighter and almost a lifelong atheist if Pat has a bit of a problem with the hot beast I would be happy to pop over and lend him a hand. Why as an atheist was and am I prepared to risk my life for others? It was my job, yes. It was my moral duty, yes. It was FUN, Oh my Dawkins Yes! Most of all as an atheist life is sacred. We just have just the one. Not acting to save a life would be a sin almost like wasting food or burning a book (yes even that book)!

Go to: [Updated] Richard Dawkins 'atheist free school' Articles

michaelleigh's Avatar Jump to comment 41 by michaelleigh

The idea of these “free”, for free read faith schools is appalling. I hope none of them go ahead. I am sure that the few, very few that are set up to stretch the young enquiring minds of their students will be swamped by the vast majority that will fill young heads with fairytales to scare them into submission.

On the plus side if Carlsberg were to set up a school it would probably be the best in the world and would have Richard as its headmaster!
