Go to: Bill O'Reilly: Atheists Are Jealous Of The Holiday

jdaudett's Avatar Jump to comment 16 by jdaudett

I find it ironic that they call it a smear, considering all the things that they've said about atheists in the past.

It's also entertaining when Gretchen Carlson claims we'd never do that in July, when these ads have been going up all year.

Actually, I figure that in the future all the atheist ads put up should say in lower case "gods". That way, if Bill O'Reilly tries to claim we're picking on one, we can say "no we're not picking on any specific one, we're picking on the concept as a whole" or alternatively "we're picking on all of them" depending on how frustrating he's been at the time.

Go to: Debate - Hitchens, Harris, Dennett vs Boteach, D'Souza, Wright

I think I want to throw up at the disingenuous lies, and I haven't gotten past Boteach's introduction. It's one of the few times where I feel like someone really deserves to be soundly smacked down by Hitchens' rhetorical style.

I must be a masochist, because I'm still listening to this guy's crap.

PS: I listened to it all the way through. Someone really needed to call them out, a la "you're either ignorant, or lying about the science." I was incredibly happy when Dan Dennett did a minor version of that. The rabbi was intellectually dishonest, Dinesh D'Souza seemed intellectually sleazy, and the other faith guy just seemed kind of silly.

I liked the subtle dig at Ray Comfort at the end too. "Hmmmmmmmmmm??"

Go to: Richard Dawkins on BBC 5 Live

I really dislike how after the whole Expelled debacle everyone tries to call Richard out on the "Aliens, not gods" thing. I think it would be better to tell the BBC not that "they look for the other side, even when there isn't one" but rather "they report the other side, even when their ideas have no intellectual credibility." Because after all, there is another group of people, it's just that they are profoundly ignorant.

Go to: Atheists: No God, no reason, just whining

This is the perfect example of why people need to be skeptical and follow evidence. This Op/Ed piece is a perfect example of what happens when someone has already decided on a conclusion, and engages in cherrypicking and speculation to back up their pre-conceived notion, instead of actually paying attention to, for example, what Dan Dennett is trying to do in terms of understanding religion as a cultural phenomenon. I give my most heartfelt sarcastic applause to Charlotte Adams' straw-man exhibition.
