Not sure how many of you read Skeptic, but if you check out Vol.15 No.1 p.67 Tim Callahan addresses the historicity of Jesus.

He cites references to Jesus by the Roman historian Tacitus. He also argues that the Nativity narratives serve as further evidence that Jesus likely was a real person:

"Both gospels invented rather convoluted means to have Jesus born in Bethlehem in accordance with the messianic prophecy of Micah 5:2, then get him moved to Nazareth. Clearly they were stuck with a real person known to have come from Galilee, when he should have come from Bethlehem. Had they been making Jesus up out of whole cloth, they would simply have said he came from Bethlehem: end of story, no complications."

Not sure how legitimate that is, but it appears to be a sound argument worth considering.

If you look up the word "accident", one of the definitions is: "any event that happens unexpectedly, without a deliberate plan or cause."

Seems to me like evolution fits that description quite well. Maybe not the "unexpectedly" part anymore, but I think we can all agree that there wasn't anyone around to expect anything when it all got started!
