Go to: Ricky Gervais says atheism shouldn't offend

I am a big fan and have listened to most of his podcasts over the years. I think his interview was a lot more toned down compared to the stuff they come up with usually (by they I mean, Ricky, Steve and Karl). Understandable, considering the fact that he is on CNN and not in his own studio. I believe that people like Ricky will make atheism more acceptable in the media. In a way, what he did was public service :)

Go to: Tory chief Baroness Warsi attacks 'bigotry' against Muslims

I personally do not understand why she has an issue with the labelling of people as 'moderate' etc. Does that not prove that people are mostly worried about Islam rather than individual Muslims? And why is that unacceptable? I would understand her concern if the factory dialogue ended with the statement: 'but they're all the same, in'it?'.

Aiser,

Please explain (step by step) how the ten commandments will help Europe. I really want to know.
Do you seriously believe that the religious right in the US is a boon for the future of your country?
You are against abortion and yet you believe that a child is condemned to torment in hell unless it is christened. (I know you have not said so, but you are a Christian so you must believe it)

You fail to understand that atheism is not a popularity contest. It is a lack of belief in the supernatural. Unlike religious people, we usually do not care about other people's beliefs or lack thereof. Unless, of course, they are put into legislation. The ten commandments, however, make it very clear that you MUST believe in God. Do you see the difference there? Religion and atheism are not two opposing teams of the same game.

I am not optimistic about the demise of the RCC, either. The only people that see the current situation as a tipping point are rational atheists. Religious people do not think that way. They lack rational judgement and find infinite ways of justifying their beliefs. They will be made to believe that Ratzi is being unfairly targeted by the media or something to that effect. Has Ratzi been condemned by any religious organization? No, we are the only people who are outraged right now.

I do not believe that the Vatican will be challenged either. The RCC is woven into the fabric of western societies. It is like organised crime in a sense. Do you know of a country which has eradicated organized crime? It cannot be done.
We have to face it, religion is above the law and there is not much we can do about it. I rarely hope to be proven wrong, as much as I do now.
