Robert Price, Hector Avalos, Richard Carrier or Bart Erhman - all could be 'contenders'.

Go to: Church puts Pat Tillman on a Christian cross for Memorial Day

Maybe after three decades of atheism I'm just too old for constant 'outrage' but I just find this a pretty ridiculous issue to gets ones knickers in a twist about. The old lady was honouring a guy in her way and I see nothing wrong with her doing so. Old ladies putting up crosses in their gardens don't bother me unless they are wearing a white hood and setting the cross on fire.

You might not like the direction a country takes with regard to expressing their democracy but to date the West reactions to cultures it disapproves of only serves to deepen the antagonism to Western mores and to reinforce clinging to familiar traditions.

Instead of spy satellites and bombs why not try communication satellites and ipads. The free exchange of information and ideas may well achieve what oppression and violence impedes. Instead of financial sanctions offer financial reinforcement of positive behaviour - for example financial support for womens educational facilities.

In the short term however people should be aware and prepared for the fact that it is the very rare country that doesn't experience violent upheaval and struggles between factions in the move from dictatorship to democracy.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this trolling was. It's a bit like Tommy Tiernan cracking jokes about the kidnapped child. Just too distasteful for civilised people. Up to 25,000 dead and hundreds of thousands suffering is just not material for satire imo.

Go to: Atheists and Anger

I prefer passion to anger - at least in the long term. Some New Atheists are able to thread the line between passionate assertion of the truth and angry bullying harassment. Others aren't and come of sounding like the tea party in their attacks on the "other" and also in their attacks on anyone they don't consider "pure" enough - again like the tea party going after what they call Rinos.

Dawkins and Dennet in my view always stay on the right side of that line and remain highly effective spokespersons for the atheist movement as a whole. I wish we had more spokespersons like them.
