Bernestein,
I don't think that taking a neutral stand on social issues would be of much use to an organization trying to promote atheism and reason. I think that most people without a religious motivation would probably reach the conclusion that restricting the liberties of others in these sorts of ways is wrong. Trying to only promote atheism while avoiding related issues would seem pointless to me

another note to ty90

Like it says in the song, wear sunscreen. Also remember what it says about advice

"Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth."

Damn. I'm starting to show my own age now.

This thread seems to have gone a bit off track, but happy birthday anyway ty90.

On another topic, I agree with Cluebot. Telling everone that the onion is fake news sort of takes half the fun out it. I suppose there might be a few people who don't know what the onion is - If there are I think they should probably be left to figure this out for themselves.

"Taken together, these intellectual trends have resulted in a fragmented society that marginalizes God, with many people mistakenly thinking they can live happy and productive lives without him.

Doesn't he sound so happy. Probably very productive too.

A bit more of this mass education is in order I think.

Go to: Catholic bishops warn Obama they'll fight on abortion: Statement to focus on 'opposing evil'

"We again express our desire that all Catholics in public life be fully committed to public good."

"I cannot have a vice president-elect coming to Scranton and saying he learned his values there, when those values are utterly against the teachings of the Catholic Church

Right bullies aren't they. Just the thinest veiner of gentle guidance over their commandments. Are they seriously suggesting that anyone who supports abortion cannot be committed to the public good? And since when has the Bishop of Scranton dictated where the Vice President elect can or cannot go (or what everyone in Scranton believes).
