There are lots of ways that lexical items find their way into the sights of lexicographers but the most common is simply this: usage. The more the word is used the more it will appear in Corpus data and be considered for inclusion in one the big dictionaries.

It would be nice to say this world is fair but it's not. Somebody has to bring it to the attention of the lexicographers and they have to listen. Fortunately I have some tiny influence in this nerdy world and will try my best to keep suggesting this word until it's taken seriously. I will also try and persuade all my colleagues and fellow Corpus users to influence their own contacts in this regard. It will only help a small amount in the end but it's better than nothing, by quite a bit.

It will only be useful for me to do this if we all keep using the word- as much as possible but only where it's appropriate (inappropriate use will have the opposite outcome).

Go to: Francis Collins: Atheist Richard Dawkins Admits Universe's Fine-Tuning Difficult to Explain

OMg! I have just scratched a scratch card and won several hundred thousand dollars!

Imagine all the possible ways that the universe could be that do not include the series of events that led up to my buying of and scratching of this lottery card!!! It seems obvious that the universe was fined tuned to lead to my winning a huge amount of cash! And of course, there must have been a fine-tuner, who must be God, who must've been the Abrahamic God.

Er...

What would it take? A Templeton prize usually does the trick, doesn't it? ;)

I've been learning Arabic for the last few months. My teacher (who is a Muslim but the most sceptical and open minded Muslim you could imagine and not some creationist nut) is using the Koran to teach me- as well as more standard teaching materials, of course- as it is primarily the argument that you cannot fully understand the Holy book unless you read it in it's original language that has led me to learn this really quite beautiful language.

Of course, it's a little early to form any firm conclusion but I can tell you that so far the only difference is in the 'timbre' of the language and not in the meaning itself. I am prepared to be wrong but so far the claim that you need to understand Arabic to appreciate the meaning of the Koran seems to be looking rather shaky.

As for this woman, I think Richard's post sums it up perfectly.
