Go to: NHS money 'wasted' on homeopathy

For those of you in need of analogies...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeopathic_dilutions

Unfortunately my girlfriend got into homeopathy (before we'd met I hasten to add) for a back complaint and is now convinced it works. I have to bite my tongue when ever she mentions it for fear of damaging the (placebo) effect that she thinks its having on her. Bloody homeopath charlatans, making my love life awkward... oh, and fleecing the ill, ill-informed and desperate. Scavengers of human misery I call them.

I'm just surprised they didn't get Kurt Warner to do it. He mentions god rather a lot and rather unnecessarily. But as I have no idea of his stance on this maybe he's pro-choice.

Agree with the author and with other posters here. We can't be hypocrites about freedom of speech in this regard. Painful as that may be.

Go to: Richard Dimbleby Lecture - Shaking Hands with Death

I remember a chap from the 'care not killing' group on Channel 4 news a while back arguing this same issue. I've forgotten his name, but he made a statement along the lines of...

"Around 60% of people who seek assisted suicide are depressed."

So he basically said that a large portion of people who want to end their lives are unhappy with their lives. Hmmmm...

Go to: MMR scare doctor 'acted unethically', panel finds

My mum works as a practice nurse and has done so for the last two decades. She was at the blunt end of the faux knowledge parents claimed to have on MMR and has seen patients develop complications arising from measles infections, including blindness and death. She still has to deal with muppets saying how its 'dangerous' based on these parent's poor knowledge and somehow she manages not to use the phrase 'you stupid homunculus troglodyte' when explain why the MMR vaccine is a good idea.

I guess the point I'm making is that Dr Wakefield is responsible for the suffering of these children and parents, but then so are people's refusal to read more than the Daily Mail and yet still consider themselves 'informed'.
