Go to: Make The Pope Pay

Excellent! The pope is a disgrace. Why is it that he can visit the UK and Geert Wilders can't? His remarks about Mohammed ("Look at what Mohammed brought to the world that was new and you will find only evil") seem to me to be no different to Wilders's comments on violent passages in teh Qu'ran. And Wilders had to pay for his attempted entry to the UK.

I am ashamed that in Britain we have an established religion. We are not a secular democracy.

"It has no religious significance"? This is disgusting. In the 21st Century, a British newspaper is guity of gross misrepresentation, saying that the obsession with maintaining girls' "purity" has nothing to do with religion! This is just playing into the hands of the people who are performing this disgusting act, who know that most of the authorities are shying away from confronting this issue, for fear of not showing enough "respect" for "other cultures". Yet another problem that would be solved if religions were treated as any other privately funded non-governmental organisations.

Go to: The Brothers grim

I go to a school which was established by the Christian Brothers, and although (thankfully) there are no longer any teachers at the school who are members of the order, the pompous arse of a "headmaster" sings their praises, and seems to approve of sadistic, violent brutality (which, of course, they never give the slightest mention to).

The interests and views of religions have to be respected and taken into account, in exactly the same was as the interests and views of any other privately funded non-governmental organisations have to be taken into account, but no more than any other privately funded non-governmental organisasions (such as trade unions, businesses and charities) are respected and taken into account. For example, religions do not have the right to their own schools, nor to a quota of seats in parliament, nor the right to be consulted on all pieces of legislation that concern morality, nor the right to inculcate children with the beliefs of their choice. And, to anybody who says, "Religions speak on behalf of their adherents when governments are deciding what to legislate", I say that the adherents can speak for themselves. Conduct surveys, and find out what the followers of religions really think, which is often radically different from what the preachers say that they do (how many Catholics do you know who believe that AIDS is Bad but Condoms are Worse?).
