What else can you say but 'Fucking idjits, all of them!' This includes the media that turned this into a global news item, for some reason.

Go to: 'Agora': a film depicting the war between Science and Religion and why it matters

I, too, found the film a bit rambling after the burning of the library. But overall it is a gorgeous film and from what I understand, it was based on extensive research (although not entirely historically accurate). I liked particularly the rapid change of perspective, when in the midst of human drama - a declaration of love or the burning of the library - the camera zooms out into the stratosfere and all you can see is the Earth's blue surface. I have to disagree though about the depiction of Christians. Hypatia's slave - don't remember his name - was not a negative character. Furthermore, there are scenes where Hypatia, her father, etc. mistreat their slaves and are portrayed as elitist. The Christian sect Parabolani are the villains in the movie, but there is also a scene where they run to help someone, just to be ambushed. In a way, they are portrayed as the Hezbollah of their time - fanatical, violent, but also providers of social services. I really like the director Alejandro Almedabar. His other movies are definitely worth watching: 'A sea inside' based on a true story of a man who fights for his right to be euthanized; 'Open your eyes' an awesome, awesome movie, later watered down into the Hollywood Scientology propaganda 'Vanilla Sky.'

I don't know, the 'journey toward understanding' stuff sounds a bit tongue-in-cheek to me.

If he ever comes, he should be greeted with the Jon Stewart Gospel Choir standard:
"Go fuck yourself, go fuck yourself, go fuck yourself, mmmhhmmmm...."
