debate over
great
you really cant argue with christians there is no point doing so either, blind faith will always be enough to justify the most infantile beliefs,
instead time and resources would be better aimed at countering the creeping influnce of the worlds major cults into all aspects society

i am an atheist and i used to think "am i just an atheist proselytizer. am i as bad as the evangelists?" then i thought "of course not" simply because there is reason in our arguments. i might call my self an atheist "persuader" if even that.

Go to: Teach sex and evolution or close, Quebec evangelical schools told

This is old news... it was in reported about 3 weeks ago as well. At the time, the principle (or whatever they're called) of one of the schools said: "We teach the theory of evolution... as well as the fact of creation."

My blood is still boiling...

Go to: Humphrys In Search of God

"Maybe he doesn't. Maybe he, as an atheist, has just come up with an extremely effective vehicle for exposing the inadequacies of religion."

That was my reading of it - and it was one of the most effective challenges I have heard in some time. Humphries quickly picked up on the gap between the lovely theological god that doesn't do anything ( and that no one but theologists actually understands according to some of the arguments against Dawkins book ) and the interventionist god that ordinary Christians seem to worship (well they pray to him and expect stuff to happen). Rowan Williams responses where pretty feeble and not really logically coherent (something of surprise, that....) - especially his 'free will' response which was just bollocks and sounds like he had never actually been challenged on it before or thought it through.

Go to: Atheists should be louder and prouder

I am not sure that John Humphrys show was anything other than great for atheism. His lines of enquiry where intelligent and Rowan Williams was very wishy washy. For someone who is supposedly intelligent and a leading figure he sure does talk a lot of meaningless nonsense. It must take a huge amount of self delusion to be able to spout such obvious rubbish (I mean it is not even logically consistent the stuff he says- if you went to get your car fixed and the mechanic insisted that the way to possibly fix it was to paint the front door of your house a different colour you would just go somewhere else)
