People like the catholic lady surprise me. She said, she is catholic, yet she rejects one of the basic dogmas of catholicism, namely the Transubstantiation. Why is she referring to herself as catholic then?

This sounds to me like the same as if someone were saying stuff like this:

-"Yes, I'm a christian. I just dont belive in that whole Jesus/God bullshit!"

22 "people" stormed this event, only 2 was arrested? This doesn't seem like a good ratio...

Go to: Religious groups cry foul over Ontario anti-bullying bill

These ideas aren't tought explicitly, but they are implied.

I was at a catholic mass, and in the sermon the preacher stated, that people should not vote for the liberal party, because they would allow gay marriege, and that would hurt society.

One of my oldest friends is a catholic, from a religious family. His father is teaching physics and a bible class, his brother is learning to be a priest. We had a discussion, a few years back, and he stated, that he thinks, that gay men should be shot in the head. He stated, that they sould be killed.

These ideas are coming from somewhere, don't you think?

The worst thing described in this article is that these people think it's a value to hate/bully/have an irrational fear towards people with different gender preferences.

And... is it a “value” that's actually taught anywhere, or is the congregation just expected to pick up by osmosis or something?

Go to: Top Ten Myths About the Brain

I concede, the artificial neural networks are different then real neural networks in many ways, and todays ANNs are very simplified, abstracted versions of real neural networks, and honestly, I'm not qualified to talk about brains, but I think they are essentially the same: node based information processing devices.

Also, neural networks have the property to learn and also to forget. Actually, I think it was a problem, as a network learned new stuff, it forgot older input patterns.

Comment 9 by DavidMcC :

Whilst it is true that the brain contains a very large neural net, and computers can be designed with neural nets, the significant difference lies in hormones. Computers don't have hormones, brains do, and they are substantially influenced by them. For example, the very existence of "flash bulb memory", even though it is far from perfect (as mentioned in the OP), is due to hormones. We may get "important" details wrong over time, but at least we do rememer something when the event had emotional impact. On the other hand, computers only "forget" when either they develop a fault, or when they are deliberately made to forget by the operator.
