Go to: Debate: Does the Universe have a purpose?

Where were the astrophysicists and other experts of the universe in this debate? I love Dawkins and Shermer, but neither are experts in the cosmos. Why didn't they have someone like Neil DeGrasse Tyson or Alex Filippenko? Or even Stephen Hawking?

But did you read the related article?

Brain Differences Found Between Believers In God And Non-Believers

ScienceDaily (Mar. 5, 2009) — Believing in God can help block anxiety and minimize stress, according to new University of Toronto research that shows distinct brain differences between believers and non-believers.

Compared to non-believers, the religious participants showed significantly less activity in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), a portion of the brain that helps modify behavior by signaling when attention and control are needed, usually as a result of some anxiety-producing event like making a mistake. The stronger their religious zeal and the more they believed in God, the less their ACC fired in response to their own errors, and the fewer errors they made.

I find it interesting these two studies and how they appear to conflict somewhat.

For a second there, I thought Dawkins' answer was going to be to stone HIM! The way the glasses were took off, the wide opened eyes.

This really was a fantastic answer. It was polite yet stern. Understandable informative, sprinkled with a bit of humor (the mention of Intelligent Design).

Wonderful!

Seems no one on the Alternet comments likes her, and/or they're very religious, interesting.

Go to: 'Why Evolution Is True'

Coyne's book is what I was reading when I saw Dawkins' during his Greatest Show On Earth book tour. I felt like I was the owner of two of the best books on evolution at that moment.
