Go to: Should Richard Dawkins be Arrested for Covering Up Atheist Crimes?

toyboatt's Avatar Jump to comment 86 by toyboatt

I'm a little confused how criminal law applies to the Pope in this situation. It seems to me that it should be the victims that report crimes to the authorities, and the responsibility does not rest solely (or even mostly) on the Bishop. Should I be arrested if I don't report to the police someone's accusation of someone else's crime? The fact that they relocated accused priests does not prove guilt as would a successful prosecution.

The only way I can imagine legal culpability is if they threatened victims and/or witnesses to keep them quiet. I haven't heard anything about that, but I don't know much about the issue.

So what's the scoop? I know the Church is morally wrong either way, but is there evidence of legal transgression?

Russel: Thank you for your thorough reply to the original article.

Sobieski: Memorizing a thesaurus and spelling better than other people does not make you better at communication or logic. It just makes you pretentious.

On Topic: The appearance of atheist dogma is simply the effect of greater political push by the religious majority. We are "dogmatic" because we actively attack their claims to moral and legal superiority. This is different from saying we are not dogmatic; I am saying that they are misusing the term dogma to describe the organized backlash to governance based on myth. If a group of people passionately worked to base our laws on the original Star Wars movies, I would "dogmatically" oppose them as well.

Alas, another example of... people who... 'have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought'.

Go to: Cell Size and Scale

I teach high school biology and have shown this to students in class. One that that confuses me is the apparent size of the chromosome; it looks way too big to fit 23 into that red blood cell! I wonder if they measured only length and just had an artist do the width...
