Go to: Major Threat to Religion? Clergy People Coming Out as Atheists

quarecuss's Avatar Jump to comment 7 by quarecuss

A burst? more like a little spray. The Clergy Project is not common knowledge with the average citizen and churchgoer.

Probably true but it's grassroots movements like this that are needed. Atheists have to be happy with small victories like this among the bottom ranks of the clergy. There are plenty of disgruntled priests in Ireland, for example, who are an embarrassment to Rome. Any day now one of these rebel priests or a bishop or even a cardinal may come clean! Pity someone like Archbishop Diarmuid Martin wouldn't get up and 'come out' in front of some thousands at the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin this week and say, "I screwed up. It's all a bunch of shite!"

Go to: Dawkins calls for 'Catholic' honesty

Transubstantiation was an inspired, timely choice for RD to tackle in Dublin ... just a few days before the Eucharistic Congress in that same city, a kind of Catholic Olympics or Royal Jubilee event that was, at one time, a huge triumphalist celebration of RC mind-imperialism (centred on transubstantiation). See HERE for details of the massive attendance of 500 000 people who attended the final day of the same event in 1932 in Dublin. Although the 2012 Congress isn't over yet (congress not reached its climax?!) early indications (here) are that this week's congress will be a limp, impotent affair in comparison with the 1932 event. Catholics are beginning to be honest?

Go to: What Would Darwin Say to Today's Creationists?

I've listened to a few of Eugenie Scott's presentations and find them positive about science and critical of both evolution and climate change denial. She sounds like an articulate, atheistic teacher who realizes that she has to tread carefully in a country where direect attacks on religion alienate many who might otherwise listen.

The Popess. It never fails to amaze how the English replaced the papacy with monarchical Fid. Def. and thought they'd done away with all that superstitious nonsense.
