Go to: Why We Don't Believe in Science

The problem with the idea of 'believing in science' stems from the fact that science is not a matter of faith. It is based on evidence and facts. Belief, as it relates to religion (i.e., accepting without evidence or reason) is irrelevant to science.

Therein lies the root of the problem: If a large percentage of the population is raised to consider believing more important than knowing, then the logic and reason that support a real understanding of the real world will routinely be over-shadowed by superstition, irrationality and plain pig-headed ignorance.

The only functional path forward under these circumstances is to put more emphasis on reason and rational thought into the education of our youth. The only defense against mystical indoctrination is a firm sense of skepticism, and a real desire for rational understanding.

The only real evil is belief. It is a cancer of the human mind.

Santa Barbara would be a great location for me, but I don't see anything listed as to how to get tickets in advance.

Will they be available through this website?

I have given up on any and all labels to describe how I think and feel about the universe. After running the gamut of Atheist, Agnostic, Rationalist, Humanist, and several combinatorial derivations thereof, I have come to the realization that each and every one of them is subject to misunderstanding, misinterpretation and misrepresentation (willful or otherwise). A label as such is more than anything a football to be kicked about by those who seek to score their own philosophical or political or theological points, with no regard to the original intent of the labeled.

For myself, I am simply a person who does not believe; in gods or fairies of any kind or in anything else whose veracity cannot be ascertained or tested. Period.

We shouldn't hit Satan-torium too hard, just yet. Having him as the nominee would be the best thing for the Obama campaign. He's got such a hard-on for his fascist papist extremism that he couldn't possibly keep from politically self-immolating by November..
