I agree with Stafford Gordon, some of the comments here are disgusting. Is it really necessary to be so vulgar?

Go to: Death penalty or no death penalty?

I object to it for a number of reasons. Primarily because the family of the criminal become victims, and also because we can never be 100% sure the that the conviction is accurate, aswell as many of the other reasons given already. But I'm sorry, more thought needs to be given to the grieving families that have to endure unending torment because people are too busy discussing the morality of infringing on a murderer's rights. Unless they are suffering with a mental illness, as many most likely are, then I cannot see anything wrong with locking them up simply for punishment, which will ease the suffering of the victims rather than add to it. Am I immoral for thinking this?

Go to: You do not choose what you choose

All we have to do is examine our thoughts and actions for a while to realise that we are simply passengers in our own body. We have no control over the thoughts that spontaneously emerge in our minds. I love what Sam Harris said at a recent talk with Richard, "Think of a random celebrity in your mind" - Now, it's fair to say we cannot control which celebrity pops into our head, and this is what happens with all of our choices. On top of this there is the fact that the subconscious mind is aware of our next actions before we are. It's not a nice thought but that doesn't mean it's not true.
