Mordacious 1: I like that idea! I'm tempted to get one printed up stating that the world will end on 21/5/11 complete with a few bibilical quotes. It's good to not let people forget about the nonsense claimed by this preacher. Perhaps it might make them consider the nonsense their preacher tells them.

I'm a white male. As a consequence I particularly love finding these kinds of articles on this site. I love being so passionately reminded of how unjust things remain for so many not comfortably cushioned within my demographic. It reminds me of how much there is still to fight for. How much work still needs to be done. It reminds me to never just assume everything is, in general, moving in the right direction. It fires me up and re-ignites my passionate belief that the war is not won and the arguments still need to be made. Over and over again. We all, no matter how small, have to continue to fight this bullshit because, as has been said before, none of us are free until we are all free.

To be fair to the guy (and I mean that in the loosest sense of the term), when you're defending the indefensible what option do you have other than turning to nonsense? The religious have to try and defend this kind of shit someway so what option is there other than to say God did it on purpose because people deserved it?

Still, it does highlight (one again) the fact that any God who oversees this world full of indiscriminate pain and suffering is quite clearly an evil, sadistic bastard.

As an aside, for those out of the loop PZ Myers is currently doing a series of posts from his contributors explaining why they're atheist. I think one of the best was published yesterday. It simply said:

'I am a religious agnostic because of science, an atheist because of probability, and an anti-theist because of religion'.

The article reminds me of the last part.
