Well this exchange in many ways was not about whether to be a little A or a big A but reflects a diversity of thought as to how to reach the hearts and minds of believers. I think we will benefit from our brethren who wear the big A. If the idea is to create awareness and dialogue than a more subtle design works apparently not just for me but many others. Mind you not that the original design is flawed but one design cannot capture a group as diverse as ours.

The various contributors who seek to splinter our relatively small movement with criteria for who is truly an "atheist" disturb me. That position is fundamentally wrong and is indeed close to making atheists a closed sect. Many entries indicated what could possibly be wrong with wearing the t-shirt or how could there be negative consequences. Bless you, you live in a tolerant area of the world or you have the luxury of being immune from the real world consequences of being an atheist. Many of us do not so please try not to be so judgmental.

The message does indeed need to get out but only for those who are ready and can disseminate the message. Please no more "I am real atheist because I am wearing a large A on my chest and you are others are not worthy and sniveling cowards" Sounds silly as it should once you reduce the argument.

The T shirt is a good start and many thanks for the time and effort of all. Hopefully the t-shirt represents merely the beginning of a line a of fashionable clothing for the Atheist with nothing to wear.

This is also just a t-shirt. You don't have to wear it. You don't have to wear it all the time.

I don't understand the whiners here at all. … then this place isn't for you anyway, and your complaints are irrelevant … Wearing a shirt with a bold A on it is part of an "annoying 'F you, I'm an atheist'" trend? Good grief. How pathetically sensitive are you? …
Some people seem incapable of handling even that minimal amount of self-expression, though.

Hmm, a lecture by the "great" PZ Myers to the rest of us undeserving atheists who have the audacity to not work in the Ivy Tower and where there are real world implications as to revealing our atheism. PZ climb down off your horse. It is you who perhaps does not belong here. The Dawkins website mission is to support those in the fold and to support those working their way towards freedom from religion. Please no more of your insufferable and denigrating comments as to who is worthy to be present on this website. I have read all the works of the masters (Harris, Dawkins and Hitchens) and have imbibed every drop with delight. That being said, a large A on your chest will not engage dialogue and is indeed a big FU to the world. Not that I mind it but lets be honest.

So let us not divide our limited numbers by playing God as to who is a worthy atheist.

I love the idea and the campaign but perhaps a version of the shirt down a couple notches might take people like me off the fence to join the campaign. A version with the A reduced to the size of a quarter with the Dawkins website in smaller script on the back would be nice. I live in a moderate blue state and the present version would not play well even in a blue state let alone a red state. To those with the chutzpah to wear the present version, I tip my hat. I love the website and may logic one day trump fairytales.
