wow I've lost a bit of respect for Dr. Harris here. And also for those of you who didn't know, that magazine is an extremely right-wing Jewish magazine, just like the interviewer.

" Most ridiculous article EVER.

If this was true you wouldnt have 100% of the world confused as to what we are and where we came from. After all these are the only things that matter.

Cause => Effect... The original singular "Cause" was? Why right now we call that the Singularity. Thats where Physics breaks down and the rules dont work. Lets do that again - all worked out? Keep going. This thing goes on forever and ever - then what?

Pfft. That aint a religion sunshine that is form ad infinitum with no substance. If thats the hollow religion of shadows youre offering - enjoy. I can guarantee you will struggle for recruits. If its charisma and charm of Hitchens you need well youre no better than other religions and guess what other religions have more interesting stories and an array of characters that science will never match. "

^^And that is one of the best rated comments...sigh^^

Comment 11 by ExplorerI can remember reading "The Selfish Gene" by Richard ,soon after it was published all those years ago, when I was then, a Christian, albeit "lite", believer. The book was not about relgion of course, but I can still remember the rather indignant feeling inside me at the time, when Richard stated that it was the gene, and its blind "selfishness" that was the principle, and thus the most important aspect of our continued existence as a species. In my eyes then, he appeared to denigrate the human to a mere vehicle for our genes, which of course it is, in reality (but no less wonderful for it).At that time I found this new way of thinking about ourselves as totally unacceptable, and as a consequence, really hated Richard for what he was trying to do. I would have been quite happy then to target the man and not the argument. Happily today, I now view Richard's work in an entirely different way, and his subsequent books have moved me over to the side of reason, culminating in The God Delusion, which had a profound effect on my way of thinking. How many others out there have had a similar experience to my own, I wonder. Have we now simply got down to the hard core of religious bigots who we are never going to break. Judging by the Mori survey, and at least as far as Christianity is concerned, excellent progress is still being made, so take heart!

Im glad you left your faith and now you can appreciate the beauty of reality

Comment 4 by Andres Heredia> Why do people hate Richard so much!? seriously, all I ever read on the comment section whenever I read these artciles is religious people making personal attacks towards RD.> Comments sections are filled with comments by people who feel the urge to write comments. It can be quite a compulsion (I know). It's also self-selecting. People who write comments are those who believe they have something to say, and there sometimes isn't much to say if you have agreed with an article. On the other hand, if you feel like having a rant, there can be quite a lot to say.We need to stop seeing comment sections as representative of anything. They aren't. They aren't polls. They aren't surveys. They are a way for magazines and newspapers to stir things up and give people the false feeling that they are somehow participating, being listened to.

Thanks Steve you are right, and you too mmurray

Why do people hate Richard so much!? seriously, all I ever read on the comment section whenever I read these artciles is religious people making personal attacks towards RD. And in general these last few articles just attacking proffesor Dawkins are horrible, and somehow that's ok, one can get away with bashing the atheist. I cannot help to wonder if they'd get away with it ,if instead of RD being a 'militant athiest', he was a 'militant christian', "preaching" his religion. I can just picture the scandal that people would make if nespapers attacked him and disliked him for being a "militant christian", they'd immediately start complaining of how christianity is being marginalized, and how intolerant people are, and don't respecting freedom of speech. And meanwhile, it's ok to bash against the "militant atehist" (or the pope of atheism, or any other silly nickname that they come up with). You have to love when religious people of this kind talk about morality, I don't know if they see the irony in there...

"My problem with relativism - the idea that there is no absolute truth - is that, in the end, you have to say so what? It doesn't matter that you can't prove that we're not the dream of a genie because it's functionally uninteresting. I get frustrated that it's culturally acceptable to place opinion on a pedestal that doesn't seem to relate to information. Science is a structure in place to stop people imposing personality onto the pursuit of knowledge. Pragmatically, it's the best system. Nothing else predicts anything, or generates anything."

Excellent, I'm always surrounded by ultra-orthodoz cultural relativists or "post-modernists"
