I suggest that the Catholic Church needs to undertake a rebranding exercise. This might start with a name change.

Two suggestions are 'Buggery Incorporated' or 'Buggery International'. These accurately describe the nature of its business. Any comment appreciated.

I was at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington last night, 5 rows from the front with my scarlet A teeshirt on and The God Delusion under my arm for later signing by RD.

The whole night was just stunning. The capacity crowd of Wellington intelligentsia was abuzz before and after the lecture and you could have heard a pin drop during RD's address. The audience was rivetted to a talk which was an original pulling together of various strands of Richards works.

Great discussion and Q&A and massive queues for book signing afterwards.

All in all a fabulous occasion. Richard is a real rock star here in Wellington. This was obviously the case at venues in Australia and will be also the case in Christchurch and Auckland over the next couple of nights.

Thanks for coming down under Richard!

This was my Letter to the Editor of the Dominion Post after I forwarded this article. Regards Paul

I refer to Richard Randerson’s article - Let the atheist bus ads proceed – Opinion 1/3/10
Mr Randerson opines that ‘Professor Dawkins is a good scientist but a poor theologian’.
I and many people that I know, in this day and age, regard theologians to have much less credibility than used car salesmen and politicians.
I’m sure that the good Professor won’t be too concerned about Mr Randerson’s rating.

I just love these interfaith events which are happening with great regularity around the world right now.

These are clear signals that the various religions and denominations are realising, recognising and acknowledging that they are weakening and loosing their grip. They are seeking to bolster up their strength as faith heads by moving closer to groups who were previously their arch rivals in times of strength and confidence.

There is no way that any religions, denominations or churches would go seeking alliances with rival believers unless they were feeling really threatened in respect to their survival.

To me this is a clear sign that they're on the run!

President Robert H. Bruininks
University of Minnesota

Dear Dr. Bruininks

I am sure that you will be well aware of the details surrounding your employee PZ Myers and various areas of the Catholic church in the USA regarding 'crackers', so I will restrict my words to the 'bigger picture' as I see it.

Dr Myers, (along with Dan Dennett, Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Peter Atkins, Jonathan Miller, and many others), is right up there at the vanguard of an international group of rationalists/scientists/intellectuals who are the shining light for the future of mankind threatened by the byproducts of religiously fueled irrationality, superstition and madness.

This cracker incident is just one small example of the madness.

Dr. Bruininks, you and the University of Minnesota should be so proud to have PZ Myers as one of your numbers and I implore you to support him in his brave efforts to protect the future of our world by resisting all aspects of religious and superstitious madness which belongs back in the dark ages, not in the enlightened times of the 21st Century.

Kind regards

Quite seriously, this guy has a gravely advanced case of the virus and should be taken down to the back of the barn and shot thru the head.

You know, one of the things that makes us a unique species (not higher than the animals - just different) is our ability to use language and communicate.

But when the likes of SpongeJohn Lennox or SquarePants McGrath start with their stuff our wonderful human language just descends down into absolute shit and we'd be better off without it. I really think that people like this would be doing us all a favour if they just grunted like pigs and we could happily say to them "Oh I know what you're meaning SpongeJohn and SquarePants. Tell me more, your grunts are just so illuminating compared to what you used to talk about when you spoke in human language".

Don't worry too much guys, this Focus on the Family turkey Tim Sisarich got totally carved up by Waikato University biological sciences senior lecturer Alison Campbell on NZ National radio on Tuesday morning. Link below.

I sent Alison an email congratulating her on her good work and she replied thanking me for the feedback and assured that she would be keeping the hammer down on challenging these sorts of things.

This Focus on the Family guy is a real turkey and knows nothing about science whatsoever, as is normally the case with these sorts, he is just a pathetic faithhead.

As Doctor Campbell mentions in the discussion, the author of The Privileged Planet material is shadey .....???

Well that seems to be a diplomatic way of putting it. Have a look at Guillermo Gonzalez on Wikipedia He is really shonkey!

Holy fuck! This is a long one.

I haven't read it all yet but did notice an earlier bit:

"This is merely a sad commentary on the ignorance of newsmen, who seem not to know the noble role the Jesuits have always played in the history of higher education, or what the role her handmaiden science fills in relation to the Church."

Reading this mornings paper here in Wellington NZ, an article about Robert Mugabe - What makes a monster tick? - reveals that:

"He was raised by a fanatically Catholic mother who thought her son Robert had been chosen by God to lead the people. He attended a Jesuit school."

So much for catholic mothers and jesuits ..... they produce monsters. I rest my case!

GoodbyeGodNZ's Avatar Jump to comment 60 by GoodbyeGodNZ

My published letter to my local newspaper this week.

"I refer DomPost headline 15 May "Daughter hit for dating a Muslim" - An Assyrian Christian has been convicted after hitting his 20-year-old daughter for going out with a Muslim.

Recently, The Observer in UK revealed how 17-year-old Iraqi student Rand Abdel-Qader was beaten to death by her father after becoming infatuated with a British soldier in Basra.

Later, The Guardian published an interview with the father, Abdel-Qader Ali, who said with no trace of remorse there is only one regret: that he did not kill his daughter at birth. 'If I had realized then what she would become, I would have killed her the instant her mother delivered her'.

Abdel-Qader remains a free man, despite having stamped on, suffocated and then stabbing his student daughter to death. He was initially arrested but released after two hours. Astonishingly, he said, police congratulated him on what he had done as they are men and know what honour is.'

A recent initiative in NZ has been The National Statement on Religious Diversity which expounds tolerance of all religions in this country.

I can't and won't ever tolerate any religious beliefs which teach, condone and nurture these sorts of evil concepts, totally at odds with the fundamental moral codes of NZ.

The UK, Holland, France and many other countries are now paying the price of accepting these religious and cultural influences into their midst.

Please wake up New Zealand and think deeply before risking a slide back into the dark ages by not openly opposing such people and their behavior".

"Here's my proposal, Richard. Now that you rightly have earned yourself the title of leader of the neo-atheist, secular activists, I think you would do a great service to humanity to reject, as John Paul II did for Christians, the evil actions of a tiny percentage of atheists who have, in your opinion, acted in a way that poorly represents your belief system, in particular your common denial of the existence of God."

Don't touch it with a bargepole Richard. All the cunning little Nazi worshipper wants to do is lure you into a linkage with Mao, Stalin, Hitler, etc.

There is no linkage and we'll keep it that way.
