aw... is this available somewhere other than hulu for the rest of the world?

Not sure if this will work outside the US either but all the Daily Shows are online. Here is the episode with this clip:

The bit about contraception starts around six minutes into the episode.

don't some plants respond to stimuli, such as the venus fly trap? or is that purely mechanical?

anyway, mr. spock used his intellect to conquer and control pain... therefore, the more intelligence one has, the less one needs pain. everything you need to know, you can learn from star trek.

this video goes on and on about how the business owners are atheists instead of focusing on camping and his kind who profit many millions of dollars and ruin too many lives. at least in the end, they mention how profits from many of these businesses are donated to charities.

there should be a call to 'moderate' muslims to denounce this and similar situations, publicly.

if not from those in pakistan or parts of the muslim world -- who are in very real danger themselves -- from those who live in free societies.

their silence should be pointed out and made public.

That was incredibly moving to watch, such a great man (in more than one respect) struck down by such a cruel, unforgiving illness. He's had such an enormous influence on me and I almost think of him as a relative now, even though I've never met him. That's a credit to his personality I think.

I've been thinking of writing to Christopher for a while now but I've always thought he would be too busy, but after what he said at the end I really want to. Would anyone by any chance know of his email address?

i wrote to him in july -- i sent it c/o the atlantic.

I thought it particularly poingant when he reached up and stroked, in his familiarly characteristic way, a head of hair that wasn't there.

I hope Hitchens doesn't read these posts because I'm sure he'd censure the lot of us for this kind of talk.

yes... but still, it's part of it.

Comment 23 by Steve Zara :

Transcendence, among a number of other humanising phenomena, has as yet no molecular explanation. Molecules 'thinking outside of themselves' is itself something that cannot be imagined.

What do you think needs to be explained?

Molecules 'thinking outside of themselves'.

thinking is a function of the brain. there is no 'thinking outside of themselves.'

At the end of it, he suddenly looked a little exhausted, standing up with Blair for an ovation from the crowd but leaning with two hands on the back of his chair.

i watched this and it's heart-wrenching.

i'm repeatedly awed by how hitchens manages to not only retain the quality of his talks -- but to actually increase it -- with all discomfort [to put it midly] that he must be feeling.

like he said, he has more.

If that was a small concession to what Hitchens's current intimate brush with mortality has meant to him, it was a brief one

What an idiot, Hitchens has said similar things before he had cancer. Transcendent does not mean supernatural. What a retard this paul harris is.

i noticed that too... the religious mind cannot fathom that non-believers can feel wonder when perceiving this cosmos.

listen to hitch tell us what he feels when he looks at the hubble telescope's images of the sky -- and hear him compare that to a miserable burning bush -- and then try to insist that transcendent is the property of theists.

it's bull.
