I don't know how many times I have to reiterate this but for the umpteenth time and what was the signature on my avatar on the forum, "I shall not rest until Richard Dawkins has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his entire body of work."

The Blind Watchmaker is one masterpiece among many.

Keep writing Dr. Dawkins.

Iridium_77; I find your post to be very well thought out. Your argument is cogent and I hope many of the friends I have made in this community will read and digest your insights.

In the meantiime, it is hoped Darwinian forces will lead those few who did bond to a formidable haven of good sense and intellectual pleasures.

Veronique: I'm sorry I missed your earlier post. I've been busy trying to fill eager young minds.

I think you should hold out for at least 250,000 quid. Judging from the posts on this thread, the job description should include combast pay.

Now for a nit pick. In journalistic circles there is no "front page". Correct is "Page One".

Thank you, Dr. Dawkins, for your brave mea culpa and apology. You have removed the sting from a deep hurt. And now I look forward to continuing my support, both intellectual and financial, to your wonderful work in promoting science and rational thought.

Having waded through this extensive thread I should hope social anthropologists will in the future and analyze the diverse palaver from people who have one thing in common, an abscence of belief (except for our dear friend Jerome). I am bemused at the hostility between the "front-pagers" and "forumers". Perhaps it's just venting their frustrations.

Let my voice join Epeeist, Titiana, Phil Rimmer and (although I would put it less crudely), Steve 55 in suggesting the hiring of a professional site administrator). Josh is great at what he does but "herding cats" is not his bag and he should't be subjected to the abuse of the recalcitrant kitties.

Now let us return to "normalcy".

We need Lawrence Krauss to present a non-strident face to our atheism. The good-cop bad-cop tactic keeps us in the arena of discussion and that is important. As much as I love RD's stridency, it does put off a lot of people I would rather keep having dialogues with.

With respect to the Selfish Gene and altruism, it is true we are "naturally" selfish. However with the development of language and human consciousness, we are able to overcome that selfishness and actually plan for altruism.
