This whole situation was embarrassing, and the Muslims left looking like a bunch of extremists (again...). Palestinians are the minority, and the only way that a resolution is going to be reached in the Middle East is through diplomacy - but the people assembled seemed to have no interest in any kind of dialogue.

And as an end note: Arab nationalism is just as destructive as Zionism.

I'm American and have always looked to Europe as a sort of well working liberal ideal that we should try and reflect at home. But now that women are officially second-class citizens in some U.K. groups, I'll have to look elsewhere for inspiration.

If they want to think that Jesus wrote the constitution, there's not much we can do to stop them. Yes, we were founded by secularists, agnostics, deists, and at least one atheist: but the founding fathers made the unfortunate mistake of using the term god: so now all the Christians can always say "he said His name, therefore we're a Christian nation."

It's the taboo. It doesn't matter how nice we are, people will take offense not so much at our ideas and opinions, but by the very fact that we exist (I now just laugh when people call Dawkins shrill: he's about as quiant and British as anyone can come). It's impossible to make the religious types see us as anything other than harsh and sardonic, because they're so childishly attached to their ridiculous superstitions that any challenge invokes a sort of Borderline reaction from them.

If they had a policy of banning all religious/irreligious advertisments then it would be within the bus company's right to deny them their ad. Though I have a feeling that they're probably more friendly to Christians with ad money than atheists with ad money.

The only people originating in that part of the world that seem to make any kind of a global impact are terrorists or despotic politicians.
