I was at the national concert hall Tuesday night,a real pleasure to have Mr.Dawkins speak to a public audience in Ireland, and about time.It wasn't sold out, only because the NCH has a limited number of seats available online ,which gives the impression there's nothing left when it says sold out on the website.I knew plenty more people who would have come if they knew there were seats available, how and ever, it was about 85% full. Please don't hesitate in making the trip again, but also, try and avoid idiotic talk shows where you may be pitted against someone with substandard arguments and ridiculous questions, even though there was a couple of cringeworthy ones the other night, amongst a few good ones... I hope the enthusiasm and turnout spoke for itself. Connemara awaits...

Go to: The Moral Necessity of a Godless Existence

PBrain's Avatar Jump to comment 28 by PBrain

I suppose,in short, the likelihood of somebody rising from the dead is so far fetched that most of us on this site would have a lot of trouble swallowing that kind of claim. As, because these types of things don't happen in the real world, you would certainly have to present some very serious evidence to make that claim even somewhat plausible. If I wrote down on some scroll,2000 yrs ago, that I met a man who claimed he was god, lots of people witnessed this,it's the truth, and he could fly and heal people by a mere blink of his eyes and could also turn regular grass into the best of weed,,,would you believe me? The truth is,that if someone found something like this, they would believe it,and that's the trouble. It just has to be old, written in a particular way, with particular care, and dug many centuries later. Same reason so many people believe in the Mayan calendar being something to do with the end of the world etc.hope you get my drift. Also, this site has been set up for the very people who have major problems with these kinds of ideas which are clearly make believe more than they are real history. The comparison between Napoleon existing and the resurrection of a human being because he was the son of god is logical blasphemy in my opinion,as if these kinds of things happen regularly,so,i recommend a serious reality check before you go any further.

PBrain's Avatar Jump to comment 7 by PBrain

So,eh,OJ Simpson was definitely innocent and it's right that so many people in the usa spend an un-proportionate amount of time in prison for the mere possession of personal weed? If the law was based on fairness...then yes,we could trust them,,,and at least be honest about it. There are also complex philosophical and logical issues to deal with, with regard to law,the way it's implemented and from who's opinion right and wrong is based, and, also the type of punishment, lock them up and throw away the key. Not including the fact that so many people are in jail in the USA because it's good for state funding,a employment in a town.(Look into it,it's f**king scary)."the land of the free" my hole. It's a good try,if you're looking for trust, but I'd rather be distrusted and be honest about my opinions. You go into court, swear on a book that wouldn't stand up in a court of law,and then of course(especially if you're looking at execution)(maybe in a so called modern country)you tell the absolute truth,if you're guilty. Makes no sense a lot of the time. The people who change the law,and have it enforced, to either suit themselves and/or for religious purposes, which is in many a case, are as responsible for this distrust as is religion itself ....... maybe. ok,i need a coffee

I would think he was just having fun,and just not giving a shit wether he hurt anyone or not, sure we all did it as kids,i split some guy with a rock once,i had no intention of hitting him,but I wasn't happy when his father turned up at my doorstep and my mother in bits... I'd say life could get fairly boring in an enclosed environment. Could it be evidence of sporting behaviour? Give him a paintball gun!

Sounds like the kind of language I used to blag my way through English in school with zero study under my belt.Either he's young,or has an undeveloped and uncomfortable grasp of language and reality. I can't understand why people just say"I have faith in christianity!". It doesn't seem to matter wether the story is true or not. It just seems to be true, wether it is or not. Some physicist should be able to work out a decent equation for this type of paradox, like the way relativity screws up time as we see it,,, religion screws up logic but it doesn't matter coz... SBD=LCT ÷ LT/TV3

SBD : Strength of Belief in Deity LCT : Lack of Critical Thinking LT : Logical Thinking WI : Wilful Ignorance FBI : Fear Based Ignorance

If you get my drift... We could have a table like the one they use for GUT(Grand Unification Theory) Electromagnetism Gravity Strong and weak nuclear force, and Stephen Dawkins could work out the maths ha(sorry)

OK,that's enough shite out of me for now

I love it! As a musician myself,I'm not sure if I'm insulted or complimented,,,, "Organised religion caused Bach"! Now that's fucking science! Although,I don't think he had much of a choice, and was probably more into his music than he was god. I met another musician(another RDF member) at a festival in the states a few yrs ago, "Atheism is the new rock and roll,"(and we're not even rock musicians) was his quote. Maybe that nut job has a point. Anyway,I'm looking forward to meeting this Satan character,he sounds like an interesting guy..

hmmm, connection with supposable nasa footage of so called bogeys in our own outer atmosphere??? I'm sceptical of such footage as I am of the ufos etc.,but has anyone with a greater biological or astronomical education got anything to add to this? There has been theories relating to these things for years... Forgive me if this seems facetious. It just kind of made a connection when I read "Earth is completely surrounded by plasma trapped within its magnetic field." Probably requires an experienced/honest/sane astro or cosmo-naut for a proper cross examination...

I'm about to join atheist Ireland when I muster up €25,but I just have one correction for Michael, that is every time he said the word "million"when speaking of the cosmos,it should have been "billion". Making an argument a thousand stronger with a criticism isn't something you get to do every day.
