msloane's Avatar Jump to comment 24 by msloane

"A native speaker of English who has never read a word of the King James Bible is verging on the barbarian."

Then a barbarian I remain. On the couple of times I tried to read this work, my eyes glazed over and I nodded off. I don't dispute it has had a profound influence on English literature, law, government, etc. and can be considered great literature, however I can't pretend to get interested. Maybe its the character line-up I can'r warm to? or the gratuitous violence? Maybe if Readers Digest could condense the "good bits" ;o)

Well, off to polish my shield and sharpen my sword. I have a horde of corporate types to pillage next week.

For chrisakes, all the pope needs to do is tell the Indian bishops to "get real" and withdraw the charges. Surely a court case will be even more damaging to the catholic church when scientific evidence is provided ? Or is it a religious court ?

Richard,

In the name of the father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, ... All is forgiven. The bible is quite clear on this - even the contridictory passages absolve you.

Basis of my judgement...

Are you responsible for your predecessor's sins ?

  • Yes you are ...
  • (Exodus 20:5) - "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,"

(Deuteronomy 5:9) - "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,"

  • No you aren't ...
  • (Deuteronomy 24:16) - "Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin."

(Ezekiel 18:20) - "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself."

Sounds as if you Brits are a long way off from stopping taxes going to non-charity religious activities. Does this also mean that pedophilia in the RC church will remain outside the government's purview ? What a Plonker !

As for the argument that god kicked off the process, how does such an argument stand up? What designer worth his salt throws a few ingredients together and waits 3-4 billion years to see what evolves? A designer designs!
