If I can't comment because I supposedly haven't taken music theory (I play guitar btw) then if you don't have kids in the american public school system then...well your comments are pretty much worthless too. Right?

Go to: A lawsuit too far?

debaser71's Avatar Jump to comment 21 by debaser71

In the real world where children actually go to school and have religion jammed down their throats, here's how ot plays out. Other third graders tell my daughter that if she doesn't believe in god then "god will kill her and send her to fire". In 5th grade it turns into, "you don't like america if you don't believe in god".

Keep religion out of school. Fight it on every front, no matter how seemingly trivial.

Teach them mythology.

Treat notions of god or jesus as another myth.

Bring them places where people are happy and having fun and which is completely secular.

I won't get into any relationship advice but I wonder why someone would threaten divorce unless there are other issues at play.

My wife an I are both atheists. Our children (similar ages 11,9,7) are atheists. We found it very easy to keep religion out of our lives. I understand some people are not so lucky. Good luck.

Is this misandry?

That issue was resolved on the basis of skills, not sex.

So when a girl is really good, much better than her peers, she isn't allowed to play either?

There's been a local story around here about how a boy from Ireland was trying to get on the girls field hockey team and he wasn't allowed. Is this misandry? He was told that he would be a disruption to the girl players. Anyway after many appeals this boy is finally allowed to play. Turns out he's very small and not a huge factor in the games anyway. Again, this has nothing to do with religion. So why is it not ok to exclude girls but ok to exclude boys? Sexism?

There was some debate over boys participating on girls swim teams a few months back. It had nothing to do with religion.

I prefer reading about reality, not people's made up stories. "Fred grasped the stick" doesn't mean fiction...at least to me. Also, for me, writing is active, not reading. To me, reading is more like listening. So when I was in college, if I wanted a good grade in a class, I took notes. The act of writing things down, (not typing, but writing with my hand) sort of imprints the idea into my mind, pretty much forever.

The article sort of irked me. Carry on.

The Free Exercise Clause is exactly what the Supreme Court says it is. That means getting Presidents who will nominate Supreme Court Justices who think that the separation of church and state is absolute. You know, Justices that actually go with what the Constitution says. I'm tired of wishy washy democrat appeasers. Why can't we go back to JFK famous speech when separation was the norm? Fuck what Catholic Bishops have to say. Tax them, then let them say shit.

The "new thing" in math is dumbed down math.

It's word games, word plays, and NOT about doing computation or arithmetic. It's about NOT using standard algorithm math. It's about using alternative to standard algorithm math.

This basically means (for example) when adding numbers they aren't taught tine line up the numbers on top of each other and then to carry the 1, etc...they way we were taught. No it's some convoluted adding simple number to more simple number then drawing pictures and following a chart. Really! It's that bad.

search for "dumbed down" math for examples.

For me, I simply tell my children to do it the right way, not that crap that passes for math in schools.

here's an example....
