Comment 2 by esuther : One can only hope the contempt she is getting from those old male virgins in dresses will sour her ever more on Catholic dogma as a whole. She is so obviously right and they are so obviously wrong.

I'd be surprised if there were many virgins among that bunch.

Go to: Cardinal Pell-"Jews intellectually and morally inferior"

Zenozzograte's Avatar Jump to comment 74 by Zenozzograte

I found the Q&A session cringeworthy.

Dawkins, jetlagged by his own admission, seemed almost bored with Pell. And why wouldn't he be? Pell just wasn't up to challenge.

The highlight, if there was one, occurred when Pell blurted out something about evolution and randomness. He then asked Dawkins if he was able to explain why evolution wasn't random. Dawkins, like the professor addressing a feeble minded student; "of course I can, it's my life's work".

I think the Australian god bothering classes could have come up with a more worthy opponent for RD.

Cheers

Does anyone get offended when people say that Northern Europeans such as the Vikings and Germanic tribes were "barbarians" back then, for example? Why should they? The whole idea is just stupid.

"Theology is a device for helping agnostics to stay within the Church of England."

"The Queen is inseparable from the Church of England. God is an optional extra."

My job has me in frequent contact with clergy, and I have often wonder if they actually believe some of the nonsense they preach. Maybe this is the beginning of their "coming out"? :)

Thumbs up to the "If God exists, everything is permitted" sign. This atheist will adopt that as his slogan when next arguing with a god-botherer.

When I was reading the article I happened to have "The Doubter's Companion" open on my desk. Permit me a couple of quotes'

Ethics A matter of daily practical concern described glowingly in universal terms by those who intend to ignore them

    and

Moral Crusade Public activity undertaken by middle aged men who are cheating on their wives or diddling little boys.

    'nuff said.

Comment 2 by Jos Gibbons :

It's unusual to see an article to which comments may be submitted where both the article and the comments are broadly on irreligion's side, and yet that is clearly so here. Maybe Australian websites for such articles are more likely to attract supportive comments. (Usually their American or British counterparts on the religion subject face a string of comments disagreeing with them.) Or maybe not - I don't know. All the same, I like it!

The article was posted on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's (ABC) website. It is often accused of being too "left" wing and catering to the tastes of all sorts of ungodly creatures :D - The ABC's main offender would be Phillip Adams.

That said, we are on the whole a secular mob.

If my country was dropping 20 million pounds on a state visit from a super-rich religious leader I would freak out.

The tax payers of New South Wales were far more generous when the previous Primo God Botherer and his bunch of courtiers came to Sydney for World Youth Day.

The estimate was $90m AU, but I'm sure, given the incompetence of our governments, it was much more.

To make matters worse, the bastards managed to close down the City AND my favourite horse racing track in the process.
